Sunseri vs. Wilcox = UT 'fans' hate them both. Wilcox only got good 'after' he left. Go back and read thoughts of fans towards him while here.
You are are making generalizations which aren't inclusive of all Tennessee Fans. I appreciated the work that Wilcox did while at UT. He did much more than Sunseri with much, much less talent. I was really sad to see him take a lesser job at Washington, but it's his life. So please don't group all fans into the Wilcox hater category, just because of the comments of a few malcontents on this board who will never be happy.
Regarding Sunseri, it is my claim that he can't teach the defense to the players adequately because he lacks the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do so. While the Vols don't have the talent of Bama, there is enough talent and depth on this defense to be a middle of the road defense in the SEC, but Sunseri and his supporters keep making excuses that it will take at least a year to adapt.
So what happens in a year? Is it PFM (pure freaking magic) for Sunseri in that the Vols just suddenly pick up his schemes through osmosis? Because they don't seem to be getting anything from him.
If Sunseri were on the right track on defense, the Vols would be showing signs of improvement every week, and this is simply not the case. The players have lost all confidence in him and his abilities, and has a result they seem more confused and disoriented than ever. Then every time Sunseri is shown on TV after a big play is given up, he looks like he just got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
Sunseri was hired by Dooley to install a multiple system on defense, not just a 3-4, The bottom line is clear whatever they run on Saturdays isn't working at all, and this defense statistically will go down in history as the worst ever at UT. All that from a defense with eight returning starters that finished sixth in the SEC and 30th in the nation last season.
In 2010 the UT defense was implementing a new system installed by Wilcox, and it took some time to show improvement, but they did and there was far less talent and depth on that team than the 2012 team.
Go Vols,
Gunner
