Last night I talked to a former all american offensive lineman who does some radio work in Knoxville. He is saying that a Gruden hire is just a rumor, same as four years ago. The only reason there is more conversation about it today is because more people want Dooley gone than wanted Fulmer gone 4 years ago.
Another guy I know in Memphis who is heavy into fundraising for UT in that city also agrees with that assessment.
I think all we know for sure is that Gruden would be interested in taking a look at UT. But then again he's dropped that line about so many other jobs in the past that you'll have to decide how much stock to invest in that.
As far as what Ainge says, I lost a lot of respect for him after the garbage he said on the air prior to the Bama game. He's a drug addict and I think he'll say anything to be considered relevant and get in on this action.
I would almost certainly think that if UT is firing Dooley that they would not just target ONE person as his replacement. This is another reason I put little stock in this whole Gruden thing. I think if Dooley was being fired there would be smoke coming from other camps as well, not just the Gruden camp.
If Dooley gets fired, and that's a big if because it could cost the university between 6 and 9 million dollars to get rid of him and his staff, the most likely scenario is that it would not be announced until the end of the season. If it were announced after the USC game, I would fully expect him to be allowed to finish out the season and if that happens there is almost no chance of UT announcing his replacement prior to Dooley's exit (meaning the end of the season).
I think that's the most rational way to look at this now.
some people have correct information, some people have wrong information. There isn't going to be an official confirmation until Dooley is gone. So believe which side you choose to believe and be happy with that.
Before donors made it clear that they wanted a big name or the $$ would stop flowing so freely in recent days, Kirby Smart was 100% going to be the next coach at Tennessee.
Boro, the one thing that reall y confuses me is Rucker's stance on the whole matter. I, in a couple of weeks, will be a guest on the Chris Treece Show and Swain and Rucker; I am just thoroughly confused as to why Rucker always acts so offended about the Gruden issue. He has talked to ESPN and has told them that there is mutual interest but that is it.
Is Treece, Ainge and Swain just that much more in the loop or is Rucker just in left field...
What a roller coaster ride this saga has become. I am going into wait and see mode. I am not doubting any of the posters providing the info. I believe they 100% trust the things they have been told. I guess my own Hamilton Hangover just won't allow me to get my hopes up. I will start buying in when Dooley is officially given the axe. The longer this takes to happen, the worse off the program will get. The longer they drag their feet, the more recruiting falls apart. So for now, like my old man told me years ago, I will hope for the best and expect the worst.
Fulmer applied the poison.
Kiffin put the knife in the back.
Dooley nailed the coffin shut.
