Here is what I can gather

Gruden is going to the Browns the best we can hope for is Charlie Strong. Odds are we are keeping Dooley I think, I mean it never works out for us why would it now?

Charlie Strong has done nothing that would entitle him to be Tennessee's head coach...He's done nothing but beat a bunch of 1 win teams and padded his season...Rather keep Dooley "God forbid" than hire Strong.

Everybody's sources can't be right with such conflicting stories, someone knows a source who isn't quite as close to the situation as they would like to believe, that said I choose to side with the guy who said gruden is already living in neyland
In times like
this there are people crawling out of the woodwork with "sources". We'll know soon enough who is legit and who is full of BS.

Much of this Dooley chatter is coming from fan speculation and media hype but is not coming from within the AD. From what a certain booster has said, Dooley and Hart will sit down after the season and discuss the direction of the program. There is not a lot of patience for another coaching search within the AD even if it means a temporary loss in revenue and performance. They would like to pay off some of their old contracts within the AD in order to free up some funds for a more serious coaching search. A Gruden type search if you will, of course all of this could change with a season ending implosion. I will try to get more information but it is hard to come by.

Some of the info has been from guys inside the AD. Hart isnt sitting around waiting till the end of the season. Too much smoke on him already being a let known he is gone. They are losing way too much money to even consider keeping him. The AD wont have to pay a dime, boosters will handle that pocket change.

If this were the case I am sure a statement would have been issued by now.

If Dooley is back next year it will be worse than this year with that schedule.

Makes most logical sense- we have to have some stability. Dooley is not the long term answer- we all know that. Boosters have money. But are still snake bitten from the last.

Old conservative Tennessee.

Dooley was Mike Hamilton's choice. We are now paying for his ineptness.

I hope we win out. But I truly think dCooley will do his usual thing and well have a new coeach next year.

Hire the right coach and the money will work itself out

This may be the most intelligent post I've seen on Volnation...If we start winning, money will POUR in excess. If we get Gruden and immediately become a factor, we will have more money than we know what to do with.........

Nothing has been settled, contrary to what some of you believe or hear on the radio. You may not like Dooley but he is still the coach and may be for a while

I was on Volquest for years and shared information that Randy Shannon was not coming contrary to what many reliable posters were saying and shared information that UT was not going to hire a big name coach when they hired Dooley but I got mocked and ridiculed in both instances, so believe what you want.

I agree with your prediction. Because of the restructure on Dooley's contract when he got us to a bowl game in year 1 (or zero), the large buyout number was extended to 2015 as I understand it. It'll cost the same to fire him this year, next year or the year after. There's pretty much zero chance that the product on the field will produce better results next year and each year that the Vols are down equals huge downticks in revenue for the UTAD and the very real possibility that some people who turn away out of frustration will never come back. Additionally, DD is not going to be able to sign the kind of recruiting class he needs to compete for an SEC championship with all of the noise about his job security and that noise will not end until he either wins some big games or goes away. The AD cannot wait until 2015 for the buyout to go down.

If Dooley really wants to stay here for another year to try and prove himself, he'd renegotiate his contract immediately so that the buyout would go down by at least a couple of million $ (the amount he will earn in salary during 2013) after the 2013 season. If Dooley really thinks he can turn it around with another season, this move would incentivize keeping him for another season.
