Didn't he say Gruden is Hart's number 1 guy. That if we do make a move we'll make an offer to Gruden that he cant say no?
That was my take on the situation.

I am not slamming Larry. I am merely questioning things.

Latest breaking news:
Hart resplits AD; he becomes Lady Vols AD
Dooley promoted to Men's AD

Hires
Archie Manning as HC
Who already has
OC Gruden
DC R Shannon

Retains all other staff x for CJC

UT sets record for staff salary @19.5 M before bonus stuctures.

Book it :)

LWSVOL has thrown a lot of gasoline on the Gruden fire, however on TOS, he had this to say today:

(a) he does not think Hart would hire anyone before Dooley is dismissed
(b) he thinks it is highly unlikely that Gruden will be the head coach at UT

Why would LWS say this so soon after he had all but said that Gruden was coming to UT?

Because he has a very conservative outlook about UT.

No on the 2nd part. He said that they would make a very good offer that would be hard to walk away from, however, LWS always thought it would be hard to pull him away from the NFL.

Born and raised in Erwin...then 10 years in Knoxville before moving to Mount Pleasant (i.e. Charleston)...

Was up there this weekend...and yes Clarence's is still open...and so is the Dairy Ace

As someone who once had the elite privilege to be an insider, at least momentarily, I assure you that LWSVOL is not the end-all-be-all of UT sports. He was dead wrong on that particular issue. Anyhow, that doesn't mean he isn't right on this one. We'll see.

Gruden will make far more money in the NFL. I can't see him turning down 2 million extra for UT. Hope I'm wrong, or I hope DD beats the crap out of SC.

For those of us who are skeptics, do any of you in the know people have a date by which he Gruden news will be official? If it's a done deal, I'd assume there is a time they plan to announce.

For the record, I am not anti-Gruden. I just am not completely sold on him. My preference would be for Dooley to win out (I know most here think it is impossible) and to show tremendous growth next year, with the 3-4 having time to gel. I also realize this is extremely difficult, and maybe impossible.

So, we wait.

This is pretty close to how I feel. I'm just not very optimistic that we will win out and Dooley will be back.

Not trying to be a jerk but which is more likely:
- Dooley winning out and this team winning 9-10 games next year.
- John Gruden being a very good college football coach from landing elite players and simply being a good coach.

Based on the teams performance and schedule next year, I would say Gruden.

I am simply stating my preference, not indicating how likely it would be

Gruden better be great, not good.
