Bobby Petrino

If I had a vote, I would vote no. He is not the kind of person we need representing the school and the program. There has to be better choices out there in the event DH decides to go a different direction (regarding CDD).

All this talk about Gruden and big money isn't near the money he can get from a NFL coaching job, so what makes people really believe he'd come here? He's making as much at ESPN right now than we can afford. We certainly can't afford a bidding war with a NFL job and he's mentioned for every one that comes open. On top of that we'd be all in money wise if we did score him, that's a big gamble if he isn't the second coming of Pete Carroll. My thinking is he can use UT, Cleveland, and whoever else to just run up his value till he finally gets an offer HE CAN'T REFUSE in the NFL. Sorry, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Which hire is the worst idea? Kiffin or Petrino?

Hard to say because I think Kiffin can really coach as well as Petrino and Kiffy had his dad as the side kick for a defensive coach. Kiffin is a self promoter that bends recruiting rules and may have USC back in the NCAA sights before he's done, so in the end I'd lean to Petrino I guess.

I could see Gruden comming here for 5 years getting us back to the top and then going to the NFL. I think he likes UT that much. And to pocket 35 to 40 million is not too bad. Plus his wife has family around here so she would be happy. Who knows after 5 years he might want to just stay.

There is no way in hell Petrino gets another major job.

But let me throw this out there, if he were hired....I would burn all of my UT stuff and never watch another game.

SIAP, but I just wanted to get the Volnation pulse on Petrino. I know there are character issues, but the guy can coach. Surely we'd have a coed or two he would be interested in. LOL.

Seriously, though, if Gruden doesn't happen, is he even on our radar?

If Gruden does not take the job. I think Charlie Strong is the second choice. After that who knows. But to get the fan base back and get fans in the stands it has to be a big name hire.

UT would be dang fortunate to have him. Not to mention he would come in a second. He needs TN and TN needs him.

We need a proven winner and Petrino needs a great school.

Speaking for myself, I don't want a "proven winner" with the character issues and baggage that come along with Petrino. I'll pass.

I see the rumors of Bobby Petrino all over this board, but I honestly don't see any way or reason why we would hire him. The guy's history and the bridges he's burned wouldn't this be like Lane Kiffin all over again?

This is what will likely happen with the Dooley situation.
It could turn out differently but I doudt it.

(1) Gruden remains at Monday Night Football and earns alot of money for less work and less stress.

(2) Louisville matches any offer that we make to Strong and he remains at Louisville.

(3) Auburn and Kentucky will need a new coach next season, so they will have Petrino even before we have an opportunity to offer him.

(4) We can't find a " homerun" coach at this point, so Dooley remains one more season.

The only way that I see my prediction being wrong is IF Strong leaves Louisville to go to the S.E.C. but I don't see him leaving for more money because Louisville match our offer. He may leave Louisville to go to a better conference.

Petrino is able to coach up players. He was third in the West with rosters full of so-called 3* players. He would be able to recruit better to UT than to Arkansas. The guy knows how to coach and to win, which is really what UT needs.

Surely you don't believe nobody will offer Petrino a big time job again? He maybe back in business next year and if not, then it will be following one. Proven winning HC's don't stay unemployed. Just like NFL players that move from team to team, as long as they have the talent someone will pay.

I'd guess that probably half of the guys on here compaining about Petrino's "character issues" have cheated on their wife at some point. They're just lucky enough to not get caught.

If Petrino comes here, I would sell my class ring to the Gold Man. We are better than that. He can go coach at toothless tech for all I care, but never, never at my UT. Get that out of your brain guys!!!

Its gonna be Gruden or bust methinks.
We could get Gruden, but it is gonna cost us a 3 year, $30,000,000 contract. He will not come for less. He makes $5,000,000 a year for MNF. He will not leave that job for this pressure unless he has a substantial raise.

BP rumors all over the board? All I have seen is Gruden threads. I'm with the other poster , I have heard BP rumors to AU but not to Tn.

Whether you like it or agree..

Tennessee would be fortunate to have Petrino at "your" UT.

He is the only ELITE coach that will come here.

This isnt a top 10 job like it used to be.

Mine as well.

Petrino isn't going to be that expensive with his baggage and he is one of the few elite coaches in the land.

Yep and (FWIW), BP's "wife" and her family is from Louisville. He also has two children that attend UL. Kentucky would be a great for for him....they have nothing to lose.
