I noticed Dooley brought up Bray's int's vs bama again today. I'm not trying to defend Bray bc I think most would agree he struggled vs bama. But DD talked about how poorly he play in the post game, on the Dooley show, in yesterday's presser, & again today.
What makes me mad is he was asked about S Car's tough stretch of games being similar to ours & noted all the turnovers they had last week vs uf & said "that's what happens when you play good teams."
If he hasn't already, he may be close to losing this team again with his public bashing of players like Bray & Hunter imo. No need for him to take it this far. JMO
To answer OCI, I think 80% of this site is decidedly against Dooley, regardless of his close to the season. I have lost most of my faith... But a win Saturday, and wins the rest of the way will keep me in his corner. A loss anywhere along the way, and I say it is time for a change. The evidence is overwhelmingly negative
IMO, He is right in calling them out. Treat them like men. Expect them to be men, handle their business and do their job.
IMO, you guys are reaching. Preparation is done during the week. Many have won championships while having a perceived stoic nature. The fact of the matter is that we just haven't been getting the job done. Hell, Sal shows passion and toughness every week and we see those results. The same was said about Wilcox and he gets results.
Plain and simply the product we have put on the field just hasn't been up to par.
I was trying to address the general public's perception of him in an attempt to explain why some may not like Dooley as a coach.
However, I share the same personal view, to an extent. I'm well aware that you could have a stonewall coach and still be very successful (Belichick comes to mind). But, let's not get off base. It's well known that Dooley is a meticulous, intelligent guy. I have no question that he puts adequate amount of time into preparation and the like. I just don't see the passion that I think the program and the players need to see, from a public standpoint. I think that could go a long way.
And if that has been done but they aren't responding? Then what? Brush it off and forget about it? Sometimes extreme situations inspire people.I just think he's going a little too far. He can treat them like men by calling them out in front of the whole team behind closed doors instead of continuing to do it with the media.
If these players were professionals getting paid it would be different. They're not. And save me the they're getting a free education argument, too. JMO. That's all I'm saying about that.
I'm just wondering how can you not have a team UP for it's No.1 rivalry game all year. I saw two players just balling out for our team(Patterson and Sentimore). The others should've matched that intensity. But we've got a coach that's soft and I'm tired of it.
Neither one of those 2 players balled out either. Sentimore had a nice sack and a couple of QB hurries but he didnt do much the rest of the game. Patterson had 1 catch. He did have a 25+ avg on his KRs but thats pretty much it. No one stood out on either side of the ball.
That is a very sobering thought that you laid out here. IMO, it all comes down to who the new coach would be.At this point, I do not expect any new commitments any time soon. Also, it will be important to watch whether our current commitments begin to take official visits elsewhere. If/when Dooley is replaced, I expect the new HC to be able to keep most, if not all, of the commitments he wants. Dooley and Co. did a good job recruiting kids to the University of Tennessee and not a particular coach.
