Official Jon Gruden Thread II (merged)

JMO I think Hart is trying to unify the fan base and the boosters by airing this. He is making certain that no one out there is in support of keeping this guy. His record is grounds for firing him, but even as early as prior to the Bama game you heard some saying there are boosters in favor of keeping him around one more year. Haven't heard that this week.

I think you are spot on here. Hart understands the importance of this hire, and he wants a unified fanbase to support (financially) whatever hire he makes. The spin game appears to be in full effect.

I think Sal may have that title, but with the defensive struggles we are having, his hands are pretty full. A RB coach is a little less involved thru the game. And the reason I say Graham is that I think it was said a day or two ago on this thread that Sal's and Jay's contracts would carry over to the next staff. Jay being a former vol is probably carrying more respect with the players now.JMO:hi:

Gotcha. I think Jay would do a very fine job as the Interim...and I hope his contract is not bought out and he is retained. Not sure about Sal, unless it was to LB coach. Would be a very highpriced LB coach though.

But he's a great recruiter and one of the top LB coaches to boot.

I have somehow failed to hear what Hart had to say in regards to Dooley. Anybody mind sharing?

Hart has said nothing DIRECTLY. It has been leaked to the media that DD tried to quit after the Ky game but wanted his buyout. There are rumblings that DD tried to get the UNC job after Davis got canned. Nothing directly from his mouth, but you know where it's coming from.

I am surprised at all of you for missing this little exchange.

It was a reply to this that cd12 posted.
"No it wasn't. The initial offer happened last Thursday. LAMONTE COUNTER OFFERED TODAY."

So was it the official offer as OCI claims or the counter offer he agreed to with cd12?

I know it was late!

Can you help us out a little more with this one? I remember it and was indeed intrigued.

Palermo was an interim coach at Wisconsin for one game in 1999.

Edit- And HC at Austin Peay for 1990 (0-11).

Dooley called ran down a couple of players in his presser. Dave Hart took exception. Loud angry verbal exchange ensued between the two in the AD offices......very publicly.

*cough*(Allegedly) Had agent test UNC's interest in Dooley being their HC after the 1st season he was here. That destroys his VFL charade and the magic of his orange britches.*cough*

*hack*His uncle Bill Dooley was HC there in the '70s and led them to their best records in their history before moving on to VA Tech- if you want a connection to UNC's program.*caff*

I'm gonna go with the guys who have been here from the getgo...not saying anybody's info is wrong, but when discussing who did what first, we all know who was here, saying what and when, and now its being repeated over and over...

Eta - No fighting here, just want to filter in new info, not rehashed. We are in a holding pattern I think.

As long as it happens, don't care.

The "offer" establishes a lower limit for the negotiation and the "counter offer" establishes the upper limit. Gruden can pull $6-7million/yr as a NFL HC so a counter offer of $5.25million/yr sounds really low.
