Dooley will not be the coach next season.

Do you all think that Gruden would have any LEGIT interest in coming here? I mean without looking at things with orange shades on. I am unable to come to a unbiased determination on my own.

Names of those probable coaching candidates please.

I don't like giving names on this board because of some idiot posters but since you asked so nicely. :)

Jon Gruden and Will Muschamp gave dollar amounts it would take to get them here.

David Cutcliffe was not willing to keep Kiffins staff.

Remember this was in Jan 2010 not now.

So for Gruden the possibility was probable but we didn't want to pay?

I hold no anger for Dooley. Feel kind of bad for him actually. He just wasn't cut out for it.

Mike Hamilton, however, is the worst thing to ever happen to Tennessee football. That guy did so much to set us back. I'm sad that we couldn't tar and feather him and ride him out on a rail, old fashioned style.
Preach it, brother!

This is being generous imo. After we probably the SC next week the season can only get worse and uglier with any loss.

I think it all depends on if he really wants to coach again. If he does, then I could see a legit interest. If not, there won't be. We likely would pay him as one of the top coaches in college. However, the pay in the booth is really good. It could be a challenge to win a national championship and a super bowl. I think only Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer have done this. College coaching is much harder than the NFL due to recruiting, grades, among many other things. When he was in the NFL I heard stories about he worked non-stop. That would be the right type of coach to have in college. I think he may have some interest in coming here, I think we will have to sell him on the idea though. Making him an offer he can't refuse would be a good start. At this point, I would say he would have to consider it at the least.

Zas or docvol I'm a little new to vn but quick question how do u feel about TN's new HC keeping some staff like jay graham and sam pittman? Thanks guys.

No, its a pipe dream.
Huge reality check will hit when he declines.
Posters will pass blame.
We are looking at a Kirby Smart type hire.

Preach it, brother!

First, he showed some major rocks to sack Fulmer. It's not easy to fire established star coaches with national titles--see pa. state and fla. state.

Second, it's not hammy's fault that Fulmer let the program deteriorate.

Third, I liked the Kiffin decision--it was gutsy and would have worked but we got very unlucky when the so.cal job surprisingly came open.

I did NOT like the Dooley hire, but most programs go through a coach or two before findind the right guy. Look at bama before saban, and lsu, and michigan, etc.

The last thing we should do is hire an assistant or unproven guy, IMO. Florida did it--but florida is the top recruiting hotbed in the country. Anybody who thinks that Kirby Smart or somebody like him is going to come here and suddenly start beating bama, florida and georgia--three teams in the national top 10--might be in for a rude awakening.

Seeing Peyton sitting between the Haslams at the game last night was comforting on so many levels.

I would give anything to hear what their discussion was like during the game and after.

According to Babyavi, they were talking about golf.

I'm sure Gruden could get another pro job if he wanted it. And if not the NFL he's got a great TV gig. The odds of him coming here are close to Zero.

1-11 in sec play
0- forever against ranked team
Constantly choking in big games
Losing to Kentucky

Yeah, he jacked up the program.

If you seriously think that they program is worse off now than when he took the job then you need someone to help you form better opinions. He doesnt produce W's on the scoreboard. That is fact. However, the state of the program as a whole, from talent down to organization, is much improved over the last 3 years.

The UTAD budget is in the worst shape it has been in a long, long time. Supposedly Hamilton's strong suit was fundraising.

Hamilton was a horrible negotiator. Look at all the buyout money we are having to pay to coaches who got fired for various reasons. Look at the buyout money we are going to pay to Dooley. Hamilton did make a good hire (at least on the face of it) with Kiffin and staff. But he allowed Kiffin a very small buyout if he were to go somewhere else.

And finally, one of the reasons he gave for hiring Dooley was that Dooley said "britches" and that would connect with Tennessee fans.

Does your source believe that we will step to the plate with big money now. Because in my opinion it is now or 4th or 5th in the east for another half a decade.

I'll say this. Up until today I didn't think so. Now it appears that may be the case. You gotta remember though things like this are so fluid. Rich people didn't get rich by making bad investments. If they feel like they will lose more money in the long run than it will take to get a big name they'll pay it. The money is there. Like I said in another post, people should think of the AD as the spokesman for the boosters.

Not to just keep on about Gruden but what does he make in salary for MNF? I would think that 5 mil would pull him.
