I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I've seen no one point to a tangible reason, other than self created speculation by our message boards, that he would even consider thinking about taking a college job, much less out job.

Gruden has said he would love to come back into coaching. I have no inside source. I trust the multiple people saying its a very serious possibility. None of these people have made up stuff in the past, nor have they displayed any need for e-cred. There is stuff beyond just this board. A few of these people are otb.

Unfortunately, you are technically correct and I agree with you but the problems that Dooley created with those remarks do not hinge on their accuracy. The problems arose because his comments predictably raised fan expectations to highly unrealistic levels and those lofty aspirations only made the ensuing fall that much harder to take.

Most fans pretty much expected us to beat Florida, but after being in control for much of the game we lost when we fell apart late in the game. We still had high hopes of winning the Georgia game, but some really ugly defensive play dashed those hopes also. Finally, the ultimate "insult" came last week when we lost to MSU, a team that many still felt was a very winnable game against an opponent with inferior talent. Our defense played us into such a hole in the first half that in the end it was just too much for us to overcome.

In each of those three SEC games, solely due to the strength of our offense, we had a chance to win in the fourth quarter, but were unable to close the deal and our fans are not only crushed, they are very frustrated and angry. Rational arguments and logic tell us that we lost to three highly ranked teams and only one of the games was at home so having 3 losses should not be a shock for a team that is only in its third year of rebuilding following a series of devastating train wrecks. Instead our fans are shell shocked because Dooley had unintentionally but unwisely raised their expectations so high before the season started. To make matters worse, our next two games are against the top team in the nation and the number nine team -- among the fans, there is not much hope left for that pair of opponents.

I said at the time that Dooley made a very bad social error when he made those statements because the end result was entirely predictable -- if we lost more than one of those games the fan base would be up in arms against him. The only question now is whether he has damaged himself so much with the fans that he cannot regain their faith in him as head coach. I believe that strong public support from Hart is his only hope. I hope we can retain Dooley but without Hart's support he is now a "dead man walking".

My fearless prediction: we beat South Carolina and Hart extends Dooley.
If this happens, we end up with a very strong recruiting class. Green, Bell, North ect.

Side note : did I see you on the sidelines sat night skeeter? I thought I saw you pumped up after CP's reverse where he turned a 10 yard loss into a forty yard gain.

Ha. I was very pumped about that play. I get on edge everytime that kid touches the ball. Loved the return too. Wish we had pig back there with him.

Skeeter, that is you fearless prediction....Do you have a prediction as far as recruiting that could happen if we lose to Bama and South Carolina? Green, North and Bell are so important for this class.

If Dooley is the coach next year(i think he will be) we're in very good shape for north, good shape for Green. Bell wants to be a vol, but he will not be here unless he feels the coaching staff is safe.

Hart better not give Dooley an extension, his freaking contract runs through 2015. If we beat USCjr & win out in November to finish 8-4 just give the vote of confidence & make sure everyone knows you plan on letting him stick around.

No one, and i mean noone wanted to take the job Dooley took. 3rd coach in three years and a mess of a roster. We're competitive and very very easily could be sitting here with 1 loss. Never mind the fact we're making the switch to the 3-4 on the defensive side. Its frustrating too, our defense has shown flashes of playing very good ball, then all the sudden play like pop warner ball. Not making excuses, but Hart sees us heading in the right direction. I dont think he makes a change unless the second half is a total disaster, by disaster i mean losing to vandy, uk, mizzou and the 2 everyone thinks we'll lose. That mizzou game could be a scary one, that franklin kids fist game back could be against us.

He has told our coaches multiple times he would visit but ended up not showing. He and Liner are saying they should make the game this weekend, we'll see. If he visits, we have a shot.

I've finally had a chance to collect my emotions and get back to rational thought.

The stupidity in the football forum got my thinking cap going. I'll say this calmly. WE NEED TO SUPPORT THIS TEAM. The evaluation of the season WILL HAPPEN but it wont be until after the season is over. If we do NOT support this team to our fullest ability then we are ONLY hurting ourselves and there is NOTHING positive that can come out of it. Support the team, go to the games in full force, be loud and show the Nation that Tennessee is the best place for college football. Take your opinion of Derek Dooley and shove it up your ass. Your support will not hinder a fair and accurate evaluation from Hart. Let's get around this bunch and ****ING BEAT BAMA!!! GO VOLS!
