To all the Grudenites out there,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it will be a cold day in h e double hockey sticks before he is at UT. Get over yourselves and support the program. If that is too much to ask then go get on Franklin's nizzutzz and pull for Vandy!!!!!!! You bunch of freaking losers!

What do people think about Willie Taggart? I know he is an "up an comer", but he seems to have been making a good impression. Think he might be a good hire?

Harbaugh coaching tree. Great up and comer. Will be ready one day. Don't know if it is now.

Clay is an idiot. During the Manning sweepstakes this summer, he essentially declared on Knoxville radio that Manning to the Titans was a done deal.

Any coach that has lost to dooley (including Franklin and Butch Jones) should not be considered a "good" coach at all, and should not be on anybody's short list for hiring.

should he be considered for the TN job no. i think he could win at another school with more talent. i dont like the man but he usually has his team ready to play and actually compete. before he was hired everyone counted it as a w but now you have to play a full 60 mins against vandy.

#2 Gruden and #10 Cutcliffe are the only real options, IMO. We would have had Cutcliffe instead of Dooley if Hammy had let Cut bring his assistants. They had already worked out the money, but then Hammy tried to play hard ball with a plastic bat.

If we hadn't had the Kiffin debacle and all the bad publicity that brought, I think we'd consider giving Petrino another shot. Somebody will. I wouldn't be shocked to see him go to Texas... or even back to Arkansas. Bet they'd take him. And if they don't, Auburn or UK will. Just win, baby!

Give Gruden the money. You will get it back in wins. All the big Bowl games you will be going to. We gave Kiffin and his coaches that much. Just think of all the 4 and 5 star recruits that would want to come play for Gruden at Tennessee. If you want this fan base back then hit a home run with a Gruden hire. :pepper:

Like any self-respecting Vol fan, I dislike Vandy with a passion. But James Franklin has out-recruited Dooley; his 'Dores are playing better ball than UT. I wouldn't care if the guy is coaching the Russians - if he can give us winning football, sign Franklin to a nice $3M contract.

I'd keep Dooley for another season and wait for a better coach if James Franklin is the best coach we could get.

Lane Kiffin's timing didn't allow Tennessee to hire a proven coach because nobody wanted to screw over their program at the last second like Lane did to us.

There is no point in firing Dooley for another unproven coach. James Franklin isn't even close to a proven coach.

I'm skeptical of Chris Petersen. He seems like a good coach and all ... but so did Dan Hawkins, and he was a disaster at Colorado. So not sure what to think of these Boise State guys.

Kinda like Dooley screwed LaTech by leaving them for Tennessee 2 weeks before signing day. Dooley needs to go.

Yeah but that wasn't really my point. :p

I think any coach in his position would have left. An unproven coach at a bad school. He was never going to get that offer again. You could argue the same about Kiffin never getting the USC offer again but Tennessee shouldn't be a stepping stone for anyone. Louisiana Tech is a stepping stone for most teams in an an AQ conference.

My point was just that no proven coach was going to leave at that point and that's why we ended up with Dooley.

Tennessee can do better than another unproven coach with adequate time to search and adequate time for coaches to give their school notice and line up their coaching staffs etc.

Al Golden is an interesting candidate I hadn't thought of. He hasn't really succeeded at Miami, but he walked into a much, much bigger s#@$storm than Dooley. He hasn't won a national title or anything, but considering what he inherited, 6-6 and 4-3 aren't such bad records for the first two years.

But really, what's much more impressive is turning Temple into a good program. He went 9-4 and 8-4 in his fourth and fifth seasons at Temple, and that was a program that couldn't win more than 2 games per year before he came along.

He might not have been overly impressive at Miami, but the question is whether that is because all the problems he inherited (rather unknowingly --- it didn't start to come out till after he accepted the job), or whether Temple was a fluke. And it's difficult to say.

But I'd certainly take him over Dooley. At least Golden turned Temple into an 8- and 9- win team. Dooley hasn't really done anything before UT.

Yes really. If Gruden was going to come here he would have come two years ago. You people are freaking amazing. I have seen 12 year olds with more common sense than the the average VolNation poster!!!!!!!!

The "no brains" comment was mostly pointed at your use of the "support this team" motto that people use as an excuse to not demand better from our coach. I am skeptical of our ability to get Gruden, but you are officially brain dead if you think that Dooley needs more time.

Yeah I see whatcha sayin. You make some pretty good points. I just think the time has to be now. Dooley's done a good job of building a solid foundation. I think a proven coach could win quick here off of what Dooley has built. I also think the longer he stays here the more recruiting will take a hit and the more difficult the job will become for potential coaches. Okay, perhaps Gruden will never come here. But I wonder what goes thru the mind of someone like Gruden if they were to watch one of our games. Our performance doesn't match our talent level. Any big time coach should look at this roster and be confident that they could win. It's not the job it was when Dooley came here. He's done his job as a "stop gap" coach. Now it's time to get a real coach to finish the job. JMO
