Any coach that has lost to dooley (including Franklin and Butch Jones) should not be considered a "good" coach at all, and should not be on anybody's short list for hiring.
#2 Gruden and #10 Cutcliffe are the only real options, IMO. We would have had Cutcliffe instead of Dooley if Hammy had let Cut bring his assistants. They had already worked out the money, but then Hammy tried to play hard ball with a plastic bat.
If we hadn't had the Kiffin debacle and all the bad publicity that brought, I think we'd consider giving Petrino another shot. Somebody will. I wouldn't be shocked to see him go to Texas... or even back to Arkansas. Bet they'd take him. And if they don't, Auburn or UK will. Just win, baby!

I'd keep Dooley for another season and wait for a better coach if James Franklin is the best coach we could get.
Lane Kiffin's timing didn't allow Tennessee to hire a proven coach because nobody wanted to screw over their program at the last second like Lane did to us.
There is no point in firing Dooley for another unproven coach. James Franklin isn't even close to a proven coach.
Kinda like Dooley screwed LaTech by leaving them for Tennessee 2 weeks before signing day. Dooley needs to go.
Yes really. If Gruden was going to come here he would have come two years ago. You people are freaking amazing. I have seen 12 year olds with more common sense than the the average VolNation poster!!!!!!!!
Yeah but that wasn't really my point.
I think any coach in his position would have left. An unproven coach at a bad school. He was never going to get that offer again. You could argue the same about Kiffin never getting the USC offer again but Tennessee shouldn't be a stepping stone for anyone. Louisiana Tech is a stepping stone for most teams in an an AQ conference.
My point was just that no proven coach was going to leave at that point and that's why we ended up with Dooley.
Tennessee can do better than another unproven coach with adequate time to search and adequate time for coaches to give their school notice and line up their coaching staffs etc.
