I agree totally about the offense, i feel as if Chaney outthinks himself. As for defense anytime you switch from a 4-3 to a 3-4 your going to have issues, i think more the problem is 4 coordinators in 5 years

Look at the teams with good 3-4 Defenses. 3 things are a must.

Great NT- Mcullers passes

Great Passrusher DE/LB- ? no

Great One on One cover corner-? no

that sums up our defensive struggles to me.

Are we improving? Yes, to an extent. Is it enough improvement? Right now it's def not looking like it. Still have 6 games left, these next 2 are tough tough games & we likely lose. We need to win those 4 in Nov. in a bad bad way.

I think our offense is actually really, really good - if we can ever get them on the field. The O-Line is elite. Patterson is one of the best athletes ever to wear the Orange. We've got a bunch of different weapons, etc. and don't look now, but on a whole, Palardy is actually doing half decent. He might no longer be a liability.

Our problem is that our defense really, really sucks. It is historically awful in the same way our run game was historically awful last year.

If we had last years defense, we would have won this game and maybe even beat Georgia. I just never in a million years would have guessed the defense would suck this much.

Jay, how impressive is CP? I remember you had low expectations for him going into the season.

I think CP is arguably one of the top 5 or 10 offensive players in the entire country. We have to get him the ball.

I also think Pig showed a few more flashes last night of what he can do. Wonder if he will get looks at RB if Neal and Lane can't go. I'm really excited about him because we are going to have him more than one year.

Agree

Pig, to me, has the one cut ability that he can make a cut and squeeze through a crowd and end up 18 yds downfield in an instant

I can understand it a little, he has been in the SEC, has had good defenses every where he has been, has recruited well to Louisville so far, has L-ville playing good ball.

And D seems to be our issue. At least right now.
Remember when some UT fans were happy to get rid of John Chavis?

When Jon Gruden was coaching, he hated rookie QB's because they didn't get his system. He would rather have journeyman QBs like Brad Johnson and Rich Fanning because they had been around the block a few times. He will pull his hair out with 18-22 year old QB's.

Not necessarily true. He was salivating over Josh Freeman and, IIRC, he said he would have loved to have worked with him.

I get that this is the likely scenario, however...

Has anything ever happened ever to give anyone the idea Saban does not rule that program with an iron fist?

Smart may be a fantastic coach but everyone on that staff is an unknown commodity at this point.

could not agree more - what makes Saban's teams go is Saban - he moves assts in and out and never misses a beat - people here acted like Sal ran bama's D when we hired him - the truth is noone but Saban runs &^#@ at Bama so hiring one of their assts is a true roll of the dice

just like bellichek's assts - they succeed when they're with bellichek and they when they go somewhere else they really struggle (see romeo, weiss, mcdaniels, etc)

there are a host of people i would at least throw some money at and see what they say before i went to smart - petrino, Ckelly, Mriley, Dmullen, etc

EDIT....just about every bellichek asst - Saban turned out okay

Mcdaniels actually had a very good offense in Denver.

Why so big on Kirby Smart?

Its obvious that Saban runs the Defense.

big deal he can recruit under Saban at Alabama.

It is sabans principles and base but Kirby makes the play calls. So he would be a major improvement over sal. Sal could stay in as dc in title and Ansley stays. I would say those three could recruit a mean defense

If both Neal and Lane are out, I really hope Pig gets several carries. It sure couldn't hurt.

I just don't buy that. at all.

Saban installs most of the game plan. so he is calling plays from Sabans gameplan.

Thats like saying hire the Packers or the Saints Ocoord. Payton and Macarthy run the show.

I know there are different opinions on whether Dooley is the guy or not. But say we lose the next two weeks & finish 7-5.

Whether we show improvement or not the rest of the season, IF everything financially worked out & whatnot & Gruden would take the UT job would you be for or against it?
