'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

Shout out to Neal and Lane. They've got a bum wrap but if I am not mistaken I think they are averaging 4.5 and 5.0 ypc this year. That should show Green that he can come right in and knock off some real estate. I know it sounds crazy, and very premature but I really think the kid could be the best chance we've had at a Heisman in quite some time.

B*** S***.....if Dooley goes....it sets this team back 3 to 4 years....and yes..most of the coaches will be gone too....as well as a lot of current players and recruits....
And all of you who think Gruden is the savior..get over it...he will not be coaching at UT...

The right coach wont set them back. Didnt set Ala, Mich, Rutgers, FL, etc. With the right coach and staff one year setback at the most. Another bad hire then definitely 3,4 or 5 yrs.

We're going to always throw the ball around. Doubt if he wins a Heisman here. Going 1st round would be a lot more realistic.

I get what you are saying.. but you play to win the game and can't play worrying of injuries. Our staff's job depend on winning games. JMO

I understand your point but measures are taken to protect your investment regardless. It's the reason the NFL has gone to such extreme measures to protect the QBs over the years. Regardless of the talent around them teams just aren't as good with their main signal caller on the sideline and the product just isn't as good. It's the reason Shanahan has stopped calling as many read options in Washington and Vick is told to get out of bounds. There are a million plays that an OC can call. Why would you call one that could have catastrophic repercussions when you don't necessarily have to?.

Lawson and Hatcher should be 1 and 2. The running game is less of a problem than the damn defense. Even though Green is a factor back.

JMO, but Green's potential impact on the offense has much greater impact than Lawson or Hatcher's potential impact on the defense.

And I'm not downplaying Lawson or Hatcher at all, believe me...I just think Green is that kind of back.

He can be the real deal, but if we don't get back seven players (Defense) of his caliber, we will never have an elite defense.

I agree. Defense at this point is more important. They absolutely need an elite caliber RB in the worst way, but when you compare the LB and Corner positions on defense and what they have at RB on the roster, I'd say getting elite caliber LB's and Corners far outweigh getting an elite RB. Again all three are big needs, but none are bigger than LB and CB. Linebacker recruiting has especially been bad in last year's class and this years.

I think you're starting to see us recruit more athletes and put them on the defensive side of the ball. JRM, Sutton, and Campbell are good examples.

That is what they need to do. They are still way behind at Linebacker and cornerback in my opinion and this class (up to this point) is not addressing that issue very well IMO. They are adding bodies but I dont see much upswing in the level of talent they are bringing in.

While I tend to agree with most of this I have to disagree on the upswing in talent comment. It's hard not to upgrade both units as a whole in terms of size and speed compared to what we are placing on the field now. With that being said, I am comparing the units and not comparing talents on an individual case by case basis.

SCtiger - Any truth to the rumor Trooper has been pulled from recruiting on the road and will be gone by seasons end?

There was a rumor to that effect about Trooper and Luper on the Auburn boards yesterday and originated on Auburn247, but have not seen firm evidence.

I agree completely, defense is definitely more of a need than offense. I've always agreed with the philosophy that "offense sells tickets and defense wins championships" (even if The Bear said it).

Lawson and Hatcher might well be more important to the D than Green is to the O, but that's just the way I see it--if I were to put together my a top 3 of remaining recruits, I'd have Hatcher 3rd but you could interchange Green and Lawson for #1 and I'd be ok with it, either way.

OVing to the Barn on Nov. 9 for their game against UGA. Then, he's OVing to Oregon against Standford on Nov. 17.

In summary, DG has OVed to UT (Sept. 14), will then OV to Michigan (10/19) against tOSU, and then the two OVs mentioned above. That leaves one OV. Ole Miss and Va Tech are the remaining schools with interest.

SIAP
