Majors at his first HC gig was at Iowa State, he coached there 5 years prior to going to Pitt. His record at Iowa State 24-30-1/ 9-25-1 conference record.

After UT he returned to Pitt and left after 4 years with 45-45-1 record

What happened in between Iowa St. and Tennessee?
Specifically, the year before coming to UT?

Go to ESPN and watch Muschamp's locker room after the LSU victory. They were so fired up, because Muschamp was fired up.

they were fired up after beating a top 5 team? Wow, that Muschamp missed his calling as a motivational speaker

JM also took Iowa st. to their first bowl game in decades. most of those losses came when he first got there.

Did you see it UTV? If not, you missed how much a team can get fired up. And it was after the game I'm referring to.

don't need to see it to know that no coach should be needed to get a team excited after beating a top 5 rival. Being after the game kinda makes my point

I think we both know what happened the year prior, remove that and nothing says Majors had what it took to get the job done. I am not comparing Majors to DD as much as I am saying the time to rebuild will probably be similiar based on in state talent.

If I am a 5 star talent growing up in Bama or Florida or Louisiana or GA and the school I watched growing up is on top and offered me an opportunity to play for the school, I am going to go to that school.

That is why we are not getting the top tier recruits more than who the coach is. There are exceptions where families want their kids to go away if they have been in trouble to get away from distractions, but for the most part if a kid has the chance to play for their in state school and said school is ranked in top 10 that is who they sign with and the majority of us would do the same as well.

Just want to say what a great job you guys are doing keeping the thread going..Keep up the good work!:good!:

At this rate, we will hit 8000k very quickly!

No it doesn't. He was standing up on the stage and started to speak, got so excited he just jumped right in the middle of the players and they went wild. That is how you show your team you want them to play and get excited. Been waiting ever since Kiffin left for Dooley to fire his team up.........still waiting.

Dang GMan, that's like saying if the perp. didn't shoot the guy he wouldn't have been charged for murder.

so you want a coach to get fired up after a big win. Got it

that idea fits perfectly in this thread

Plan is Oct 29th or 30 Dooley will be announcing his resignation at seasons end. Nov 12 John Gruden introduced as New Head football coach. All speculation at this point.
I really hope Dooley just wins out we go 10-2 and have top 5 recruiting class but doubtful

This is a completely hypothetical situation, yet semi-realistic.. but would like to hear what Vol Nation would have to say, given the choice of 2 scenarios.

Would you rather:

A) Dooley go 7-5 this season, with losses to Miss State, Bama, and S. Carolina... leading him be RETAINED for another year of judgement.. Going into next year with no staff turnover and same system.

or

B) Have the brakes completely fall off and have a 5-7 season with losses to the above, ALSO including a loss to Vandy and Mizzou.. Leading to Dooley being let go immediately following the season...The catch to option B is... Hart puts the money on the line and offers Gruden a huge contract... He signs with the Vols, leading to an large offseason buzz over a dismal 6-6 UT team.

Which would you prefer? Would you bite the bullet with losses to Vandy and Mizzou for a Gruden led Vols team, or would you prefer a 7-5 season with Dooley staying for another year?
