I am going to say it.....I miss the big guy

Fulmer made a mistake and listened to Hammy and the fan base about going to a spread offense. He will tell you it was the biggest mistake of his entire coaching career. He should of done what he thought was right instead of listening to us, yes I said us.

I've seen him say this several times. Alot of folks on here don't believe it's true but there the same folks on here arguing to let Chaney and Bray open it up 4 wide the whole game. Didn't work out to well against a down and ugly Florida team.

We didnt open it up though. We came into the game determined to run instead of playing like we have in the previous two games. We should have stuck to what we've been successful with , not try and do something we arent as good at just because its and SEC game. Dooley and Chaney bought into the hype that we have to run to win when in fact we have to score more to win, doesnt matter if its in the air or on the ground. We let UF dictate our play calling instead of the other way around.

The Big guy definitely had a better eye for talent. He got lazy towards the end, but from an outsider perspective (I'm an LSU fan), Fulmer always was good at choosing talent.

2001 - (7-1)
2003 - (6-2) Tied

A couple of down years, lacked motivation, recruiting slipped, some disipline issues, left us open to fat jokes from other fanbases, golf clap, working like heck, too loyal to his guys, .....

Couple of down years? WE WERE IN THE SEC CHAMP GAME IN 2007!! Fulmer fired the next year!

I wasn't referencing winning the East. I was referecing your statements about his donination over Georgia and Alabama.

How soon we forget that we expected to win the SEC. Not lose in the championship game. That was a stat that Fulmer lovers created.

I loved Fulmer. Some of my best VOL memories were when he was coaching. Having said that, I know it was time for him to go.

How it was handled was why we are where we are. Hamilton really really messed this up in my opinion.

Fulmer should only have been fired if a great replacment was lined up behind the scenes. When you fire a guy for having only two or three bad years you better be ready with a great replacement.

Instead of publicly firing Fulmer, he should have been fired behind the scenes and allowed to annouce his "retirement" at the end of the season.

Poor manangement in the AD spiraled a couple bad seasons into a bad program. We are rebounding as of now, but I'm not sure it will be fast enough to satify everyone.

UT fans are a fickle bunch.

If CDD survives this season, and I think he will, he better look long and hard at his OC and consider revamping it like he did the defense.

I think Dooley is going to make it to the end of his contract, but without finishing at least 2nd in the east with a close loss to decide it by next year he will most likely be gone and we'll be back to where we are now.

Some blame goes to the players too. There are not many leaders. If players don't lead the coach has too. If the coaches have to lead the team we are screwed. Not because they are not able, but because players play the game and should care enough to take charge.

Na that is a stat showing we were playing for championships in the SEC. As a fan I want to be playing for championships every year. It is better being there in the championships and competing compared to cheering wins over Division II teams.

A year after going to the SEC Champ Game and being runner up in the SEC..I fail to see that!!!

So if Steve Spurrier goes to the SEC Champ game loose to Bama and gets a NEW OC next year and has a bad year..FIRE HIM?...LOL

If CDD survives this season,

I think you guys would be full on retard if you let dooley survive this season.

It's very apparent the players quit on him. It wasn't just once either. The "calling card" for Dooley coached teams at Tenn is that they play tough and can play with anybody (save Alabama) except for when the going gets tough. Then, they quit.

It's very obvious Bray and Dooley dislike each other, and Patterson and Hunter will both likely be gone. With Worley throwing to Jacob Carter and Drae Bowles next year with the same running game, I don't see next year being much better for Dooley.

PLUS, the 2014 class is critical for Vol fans. Lots of in-state talent and legacies to build a top 5 class IMO. you're got the Berry twins, Bates, Kelly Jr, Alex Bars, Rashaun Golden, and Jalen Hurd. Those guys are probably all 4 stars (except maybe golden and one of the Berry twins). That's not even counting some of the 3 and 4 stars that a good coach can pull in from GA, VA, SC, and FL.
Keep Dooley, and I doubt those guys commit to a proven loser. Bring in a homerun hire (petersen, gruden, etc.) and there is instant energy. ESPECIALLY if gruden is hired. Recruits know him so well and have seen him so often that they will be kind of star struck.

personally, I don't see how Dooley can beat UGA and Bama this year. Not to mention getting MSU on the road will be tough. Add in South Carolina on the road too. I can totally see Dooley ending up 4-4 or 3-5 and getting the axe midseason.

You guys did let go of Fulmer too soon IMO. BUT, he was getting really ****ing lazy and went away from UT power football. He needed to bring in an amazing recruiter and find someone to be his Cutcliffe again.

You guys got too enamored and jealous of Bama's and UF's success and made a quick knee-jerk reaction. Unless yall could've gotten a homerun hire, you should've never fired Fulmer. Kiffin was far from a homerun hire obviously.

I miss him too. My best memories of UT football all have him as our head coach. But missing him doesn't mean I think he should be our coach again. I wish him all the best and appreciate the victories.

How so? Say the worst happens and this is what we end up with:

UF-loss
Akron-win
@UGA-loss
@MSU-loss
Bama-loss
@USCe- loss

Why would it be silly to let him go at that point? It's not like this is an unlikely scenario. UGA/BAma both have more talent than UT and MSU/USCe are tough on the road and have similar talent to UT. This gives UT time to do this:
*Let it be known to recruits they don't have to play for dooley. Sure, there will be a few decommits right after, but you can make up ground because UT then can......
*Search for a new coach and name him in December/January. This gives him time to gather his staff and get a few recruits for the last few months to end up with a 2013 class ranked around 15-20. (see tOSU model)

ALSO, keeping Dooley around will make it harder to fire him because he could win against UK, troy, Mizzou, and Vandy and beating a ****ty big east/ACC team. Then you have to put up with the scruitiny of firing a coach who had 8 wins and won 5 in a row, when we all know that the best you're gonna get is just that out of dooley. No way he can win that many without Bray/Patterson/Hunter in 2013.

THIS iS ALL ignoring the fact that Dooley will not be able to land the UT legacies and good instate guys for 2014. I doubt the Berry twins, Dillon Bates, adn Todd Kelly, Jr would want to play for a coach who is winless against ranked teams. Bama, LSU, UGA, and UF will be glad to take them off UT's plate.

Overall, a new coach would secure a 15-20 ranked 2013 class and possibly bring in new energy to get a top 10/top 5 class for 2014, thus building a new foundation for winning.

This would be bad... The only way we should fire him is if we have a big name coach locked up already. I think an OC change will buy him another year.

I do not think it happens this year but he just simply isn't the guy. I hate that, I want to like Dooley, the dumb play calls, clock management, anger and jerk behavior to the knox media, he simply can't blame the players anymore because they are his now and this man is imploding, it was obvious he was out of his element when spiking the ball he caught on the sidelines, he looks like a 3 year throwing a fit and here we were making fun of Muschamp for his sideline fits.

All I am saying is Fulmer would be an upgrade and I would take it in a heartbeat. It is just me but I think we pulled the trigger too fast and I was dead wrong at the time.

Majors is still alive, why not him:crazy:
I suggested this in another thread, and someone almost ripped the face from my skull. (I like the old fella)

Whoa whoa whoa.. GatorBill added the Power T to his favorite teams. Movin' up on Bill, I like it!

:hi:

Yeppers.

1) My kid attends the school. That should mean something
2) I have never been a VolHater
3) Great school, great people, great traditions
d) cept one week every fall

I got killed by some folks the other day who say that Im not a "true vol fan" because of where I chose to attend school, and where I grew up. But it is a conscious choice to be a Vol Fan, I think that should mean something.

There are going to be some Gators out there that give me crap about it, but if I cant support my kid, then Im not much of a parent.

the same fickle fans that ran Fulmer off are the same fickle fans raising cane about Dooley, Bray, and all the other people we point our fingers at. We need to understand that as long as the mob is making decisions about the program, we won't have a program worth a crap.
