both were fired from their jobs after winning the big game. Neither have a coaching job since they were fired. Both are making good coin in non coaching jobs.

No, son. Its apples to apples

One is unemployed while one is making millions of dollars to be an analyst. Apples to Oranges. If you can't see the difference, that's on you.

why didnt Texas give up on Mack Brown..........similar stories son

Not really...6 losses in previous 4 years and a nat'l title appearance the year before the 5-7 debacle

And Brown is spending that goodwill account as we speak...if throws in a couple of 6-6's in 2012-13 he'll be gone also.

We would certainly be better today with Phil than we are now, but we crossed that bridge long ago with Moon over My Hammy.

Let's hope Dave Hart isn't scrambled, smothered and covered when his time comes to make the big decision in UTAD.

it's amazing how the line between pre/post-2001 Phil keeps getting blurred as time passes

Agree, however I think the 90's Phil would be the one to return. New fire in his belly..... I would take him over Dooley. I wanted to give Dooley some time but he has been outcoached at every turn. From not being able to run the ball at all, to too many men on the field, to 2nd half adjustments, I miss Phil.

I loved Fulmer, but his time was over. If he is still such a great coach, why hasn't he even been considered for other job openings?

Yes it is.

It was like 2 completely different coaches.

pre 2001 Phil was hungry
post 2001 Phil was too full of himself to work. Just like someone laying around after eating a big Thanksgiving Dinner.

You're proving how much you dont know. Phil is actually employed and has his own company. Wait a second, did Phil do so color analyst work for CBS last year? Shows how much you know.

Neither are coaching and neither have coached in years. Apples to apples, son.

Fulmer is the one who started this terrible run. Look what he left behind. You guys have no idea how bad the culture was over there his last year. Remember Lynn McGruder dealing drugs out of his dorm room. Let's just say that this wasn't the only issue at the time. It was a mess. Fulmer got his chance and the best he could come up with was Clawson. Nuff said. The problem was the AD was equally incompetent.

A couple of down years, lacked motivation, recruiting slipped, some disipline issues, left us open to fat jokes from other fanbases, golf clap, working like heck, too loyal to his guys, .....

....FLIP SIDE

king of the living room close at one point, 9 wins was a "down year", won a title, got us to ATL several times, respected and loved UTK and I think with the time off he could "right the ship again" and bring it back, it worked for Kansas, so lets pull a snyder and give the big guy another shot.

I wouldnt mind. He would be an upgrade. Give them the staff minus Chaney and I like it. Sal will get the communication issues fixed. I am not burnt on him yet. CJG has showed what he can do already vs last year.

and why would that Phil return now? His job was on the line and it still never changed back. He's gone for a reason. Throwing out ridiculous hypotheticals doesn't help anything

Go away.... FAR FAR FAR away

i would suggest you take a look at some of the humiliating loses TN had while the big guy was at the helm.

Why do you think Kiffin had to start walkons ?

Because he kicked off 20 players... and the cupboard was already a bit bare but it didn't help that he kicked off a ton of players.

What the hell does a holding company have to do with being a football coach?

CBS sports postgame analyst is not the same as your own segment on ESPN that recruits see everyday.

Gruden has been in the running for jobs such as the University of Miami, Washington Redskins, and the Baltimore Ravens.

Your hero has been rumored to be in the running for Connecticut and Kansas jobs.

Not even in the same league.

One lose and this is the bullsh*t I have to read on a Monday? IT'S ONE LOSE!!!!

No it's not about 1 loss, it's 3 years of losing and getting out coached in every big game. It's 0-12 against ranked teams. Tn just lost to the worst Fla team we have seen in many years. It's about his signature win being Cincy.

Check Fulmers record people. Two to one over Alabama, Two to one over Georgia, Complete domination of South Carolina, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, never went over two years away from Championship game. Fulmers record against Florida was no better or worse than anyone else.Top five all time SEC and national Coach. Hall of Fame Coach on first ballot. As for why he hadn't been hired, why would he with drawing millions every year on his contract and able to boost that with TV time. I would do the same by the way.
Everybody wanted rid of 3rd and Chavis too. Look at his record, we were a top three defense in the SEC every year. Broyles Asst Coach of the year in 2011 at LSU. Would you not want Chavis back?
Phillip has had four years to dwell on why he lost his job. I for one have 100% confidence in Coach Fulmer. Coach would hit the ground with renew passion like he had in the 90's. The only way Chavis would ever come back to UT is Phil back in charge. People wanted Hope and Change four years ago, our country got Obama, we got Kiffin and Dooley, FAILURE ON BOTH FRONTS.
It is time for the fan base to show character and admit our mistakes, myself included.
The best thing for Dave Hart and the UT family to do is mend wounds and get back to winning championships with a proven winning head coach.
I like Coach Dooley, but he is not the answer for UT.

Message to Dave Hart: Swing the bat after a proven Head Coach Pipe Dream, a Tony Dungy, Gruden, Spurrier, Satan Saban. If you don't hit a homerun, go get Fulmer back.

It wasn't right how things were handled with Fulmer, or even Majors before him. As to Phil, I agree his time had come, but he won a big game against Georgie in 2007 and got a new contract from a now-unemployed AD. When Cutcliffe went to Duke, Phil made a poor hire in Clawson. Not sure that I think he should be re-hired, but he was all Tennessee, he was the definition of a VFL.

Fulmer made a mistake and listened to Hammy and the fan base about going to a spread offense. He will tell you it was the biggest mistake of his entire coaching career. He should of done what he thought was right instead of listening to us, yes I said us.
