President That Has Damaged Liberty the Most?

Since we are freer than we were in 1830 we shouldn't aspire to increase freedom. Got it.

BTW, We still have slavery today, it's just practiced by government.

1850 - Under a slavery system slaves worked and their reward was just a fraction of the product of their labor, against their will. Consider that food and shelter were actually very large expenses for workers in 1850.

Today - We keep just a fraction of the product of our labor, against our will.

Someone will likely freak out and act like I'm saying they are one and the same. We're generally treated very nicely as slaves. It's not the same kind of slavery, but it's slavery. Slavery to the state. If you don't think it is, try to keep all the money you earn and see what happens. They'll do you worse than a whipping.

omfg

which one of you wackos is going to defend this?

I honestly couldn't conceive a more ignorant comment than the one you just made.

Literally, I'm shocked.

Just being real bruh

The guy related paying taxes to literal slavery, maybe that's a normal conversation you have with your friends but I went to middle school and most people who've reached that level of academic achievement don't do things like make a comparison between being kidnapped, sold to slavery and having a portion of their wages withheld so we can drive on roads.

That said, I'm feeding trolls now so I'm bowing out.

Feel free to compare the president to Hitler or whatever

If they were taking 2% of my wage to build roads I wouldn't even complain. What they are doing is building drones and sending them to the other side of the world where they kill innocent women and children ("collateral damage"). Is slavery worse than murder? It's a good question.

Well thank God neither one of us knows what it's like to be slaves (you can thank the military and their drones for part of that by the way) so lets just agree it was a nonsensical comparison and move on.

I digress....fundamentally taxation is slavery to the state. Wrap your mind around that or don't. I don't care. Critical thinking isn't for everybody.

If you are telling me you are a free man, then I'd like you to stop paying your taxes. See what happens. You are "free" as long as you do what the master says.

Can you get away with not paying your taxes? How does this not make you a slave to the state? Answer the questions.

Against the drone program?

do what? what does having a corporate shell in a tax haven have to to with paying personal income taxes or the hordes of over taxes we are barraged with daily?

If you're trying to dodge income tax there are a million (mostly illegal) ways to do it. Obviously you need to be in business for yourself but that's usually the biggest hurdle. Setting up an offshore account takes a couple hundred dollars and a fax machine.

The point is paying taxes is a bummer and you may not like 100% of what the money is used for but that's life. Vote for the guys who share you ideology and complain when the let you down - it's a big bad world, I don't know what else to tell you.

It is, however nothing like slavery and if the other poster was using that as a metaphor (I'm choosing to believe that's what it is) then it's a stupid one and if he was using it as a literal comparison then he's lucky he'll never know how wrong he is.

I didn't say it's "like" slavery. I said it is slavery. I clearly stated it's not the same as slavery that was practiced in the US until 1864, but it is nevertheless slavery by the definition of the word. Sorry.

slav·er·y (slv-r, slvr)
n. pl. slav·er·ies
1. The state of one bound in servitude as the property of a slaveholder or household.
2a. The practice of owning slaves.
2b. A mode of production in which slaves constitute the principal work force.
3. The condition of being subject or addicted to a specified influence.
4. A condition of hard work and subjection

You think I am using the meaning in red, but I am using the meaning in blue.

Simplifying like this typically means you pay no taxes. Congrats on that.

Didn't a certain vice president say "They're going to put you back in chains"?

It is an analogy excepted on all sides for the most part when it is politically expedient.
