Home Brewers

Northern brewer website. I prefer the glass carboys. Search for coupon codes. I found a 10% off starter kits. Order any extras then to save on shipping. Starters ship flat 7.99 but after some items don't ship cheap (glass carboys)

Thank you for the suggestion. Everything is ordered and my first batch is going to be an Irish Red (trying to keep it simple). CANNOT WAIT

Just made the decision to start. Ordered the book Milo suggested and researching equipment. If any vets want to pass on info on equipment and what not feel free. Sorry if this is a repeat post.

One thing I would do is order an equipment kit that has two of everything. It's not that much more work to do two batches at a time. You'll be surprised how quickly a batch will disappear. Especially if you have neighbors that like to drink your homebrew.

Saw you already ordered. That's cool if you just got one fermenter. You can always add more later. You'll never have enough equipment. The Irish Red is really good.

Yeah, I am going to keep it at one fermenter for the moment and see how it goes/how decent I am at it. I have a feeling I am going to get hooked.

Ugh. I have to stop getting liquid yeast in the summer. Better yet. I need to do starters. Fingers crossed my wheat gets going. Second batch in a row that's got me nervous.

Don't know if you saw my post from this morning but I had to run to Nashville yesterday and get new yeast. When I get them their always hot in the summer but I throw them in the fridge and their usually fine. My last batch gave me a scare but was fine. These after 2 days no action at all. Pitched fresh yeast last night, bubbling away this morning.

Mine has taken just over 48 hrs to get some activity. I do have sloooooow airlock bubbling. I think it will take off tonight so I should be good.

My temps are at 68 in the swamp cooler.

What kit did you buy? Glass or better bottles or bucket fermenter?

First homebrew I tried when a buddy for me into it was an Irish red. It was really good. I might try it.

Glad to have another homebrewer. Post often here.

Homebrew really gets better with age too. I guess there's just something about drinking a beer you made yourself.

This is so true. I aged a stout 4 months and it was the best I've ever had. It was rough but drinkable after bottle conditioning but way better aged.

The porter I have in my secondary will be part Christmas gifts. Have some bomber bottles laid aside for it.

USAF_Vol and Darthvaul - if you're serious bout having a taste off against arch rivals - Alt and Kölsch Biers, then I'm willing to send you each one of my Alts.

Local post office said you can do a general delivery to the post office no extra charge or rental of a drop box. Only trick is you have to use either a person or company's name that you can show ID against. Send me a name you can use and post office location and I'll mail the Alt.

If you know of a better way to do this, let me know.

I like the idea but mine will be going in a keg. Ive heard of people bottling from a keg but Ive never tried it.

I'm down with that Steve. We go to the post office to show Id?

When you want to try? I'm bottling a porter this weekend.

Look into the carb drops for bottling. Read some people bottle a few and keg the rest. The carb drops are supposed to drop in like sugar cubes. Like two drops per bottle and cap.

Of course before you force carb in your keg.

Ill check on them.

How are you cooling it down?

Doesn't it have to get pretty cool? Not lager temps I don't think.
