Home Brewers

I helped a friend brew an Octoberfest beer last night. He has all the equipment. I want to get a kegerator that holds 3 "soda kegs" and we are talking about rotating houses and brewing different batches.

Good times.

You can build a keezer way cheaper than you could buy a kegerator. A 7 cf will hold six corny kegs.

+1 here. Keep an eye on Craigslist for a chest freezer. Doesn't have to be pretty, just in working order. I'd look to pay around $50 for the freezer itself.

I paid $90 for mine but its in really good shape and will hold 8 kegs in the bottom. I could get 2 more over the compressor if I moved my c02 tank outside but I think 8 will be enough. :)

I saw your pics. Super jealous. =)

My buddy's got a giant 15 cubic chest freezer, and many-a-corny, just haven't started kegging yet, and haven't converted the freezer. One day... One of these days.

Do you mill your own grains? We milled the blueberry at .038" and it was too small, just wondering what size we should've made it.

No, I'm doing extract kits. Ive been saying Im going to start all grain the last few years but havent yet. Once I get my keezer finished with all the kegs and taps maybe I can start on that next.

One tip...when you mill, get your face outta the way when you pull back the miller from the bucket... That grain dust will REALLY F up your sinuses if you inhale it. This I learned the hard way.

That's funny, whenever someone is over when I rack to secondary I always get them to stick their face down in the fermentor and take a big sniff. Thats always fun.

Brewed an Octoberfest this morning. Tried something new, called decoction, took FOREVER.

Just got my first batch in for primary fermentation. It's Irish Red, and the OG was right at 1.043-.044. That's about right isn't it?

Extract? Extract kits will be spot on for gravity readings. Hard to mess them up. Got any pics?

How many weeks for an Irish red? Make sure you age some bottles when you bottle to try later.

Assuming you bottle.

How are you going to prime? Do you have a scale?

Hey Steve and USAFV, i picked up some conditioning tabs today. Never used them but we'll see what happens. Let me know if yall still want to swap some bottles.

I'm down. My porter should be ready this weekend. I've noticed darks get better with time. Needs to mellow out a bit.

Crap. Sorry guys. I'm trying to get kids ready for tomorrow. I'll post mine tomorrow. I'll check in and bump the thread.

Here for a short stint. If you're there I'll post my E-mail again. Darth and I are connected and will be exchanging brews.
