'13 KY DE Jason Hatcher (USCw Commit)

I have only been following recruiting closely for a year or so, but are we usually in close contention with USC for this many recruits? Seems like this would be very unusual. I can understand one or two every now and then, but seems like there's a few guys this cycle that have high interest in both programs. I can't think of all of their names off the top of my head, but seems like I recall a few who are interested in both. Harris, Ramsey, and Hatcher come to mind, but I know there's been more this cycle.

Elite players are elite players, no matter where they're from. This year, we're back to being in on guys that every single program in the country would love to have.

That's a good start. Now we need to finish the job. With a strong year on the field, I think we can do that with several of these guys.

Of course when showing Hatcher on the opening ESPN listed Bama, Notre Shame, and Michigan as the leaders.

Watching The Opening thingy. Does anybody know if we should be worried that we aren't listed as one of the teams he is considering?

On my phone so sorry for no link but just watched Jason's interview from The Opening on YouTube and he pretty much admitted to saying that he wants to commit to UT but is deciding to either do it before his season starts or wait to see how the team does this upcoming season. He couldn't remember CDD's name though when asked about him haha!

I know a number of people close to the Trinity program. Right now the general consensus seems to be that Hatcher has USC and Ohio State out front but that he's also dead set on taking all 5 officials.

Be honest.. U made that entire thing up, didn't u?

He didn't say that. He said he was debating whether to commit to a school before the season or wait out and see if UT has a good season. He states that all 3 teams are even.

I get the feeling that he wants to commit to UT, but wants to wait and see how the team looks on the field. Personally, I can't really blame him since choosing a college is one of the most important decisions at this point in his life. My hope is that CDD has this team prepared to fight and win some ballgames. If that happens, Hatcher is a VOL by mid season.

So much for Alabam, Notredame, and Michigan been out in front like ESPN reported at the opening that's why I don't and will never have an Espn account they are a joke.

ESPN is a business among businnesses (if that's even a word). They just sell you whatever's hot at the moment, although I admit all the love that Notre Dame continues to get is baffling. I guess that's how you know you left your stamp on sports history when you've not been that good (with one or two year exceptions) for the last 20 years but still get treated like you'd won the title just the past year or are currently contending for it.

Named a top four heading into summer of Florida, Louisville, Tennessee and USC.

Really it’s the relationships I have with all those coaches,” Hatcher said on Saturday at The Opening. “Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn out of Florida, the whole coaching staff at the U of L, Coach (Ed) Orgeron at USC, and Coach (John) Palermo and Coach (Sal) Sunseri at Tennessee.”

Hatcher is still riding high from his first-ever visit to USC less than two weeks ago. He says he could make his college decision the first week of the season, but that he also plans on returning to the Trojan's campus during the fall for the Oregon game the weekend of Nov. 3.

The Vols have an opportunity to find the driver’s seat for Hatcher with a strong season in the fall.

“Tennessee, I like them all around the most,” Hatcher said. “The question is what’s going to happen with the coaching staff and how long they’re going to be there. Coach (Derek) Dooley is on the hot seat this year.”
