Urban Meyer after visiting Clemson this past year for the first time:

“I remember when I was coaching down at Florida, we would always lose kids in recruiting battles to Clemson. I would tell my coaches that we shouldn't be losing kids to Clemson. Charlie Strong responded ‘coach have you ever actually been to Clemson?’ I hadn’t but I’ll tell you what, I’ve been here now and I get it. This is an exceptional, special place.”

Comparing Clemson to a traditional SEC school on game day is not close. Death Valley is fun but not like a game in TTown or even Knoxville. But from a perspective of going to college overall it is a great place and I can see the appeal. There are not many colleges that big that are located in a pure college town. And then surrounded by beautiful landscape.

Nice, subtle but nice.

Tuscaloosa is not that impressive at all.

Only been once but I was very impressed with it, just not any more so than I was my first game in Knoxville. I just thought it was funny that he just couldn't help himself with that one.

You guys crack me up it was not meant as a slight to Knoxville. I was only saying they also have a great game day exepriance and if you think UA does not you might want to stop following CFB. Just saying.

And if you are comparing TTown and Knoxville to live in for college towns. I would go to niether for that.

Wasn't meant to be taken seriously, just thought it was funny the way it came across.

even Knoxville? Obviously, when your winning there are going to be better crowds and a better atmosphere. Just a few years ago tusc sucked compared to knoxville. I went to the UT-UA game in tuscaloosa in 2001 and it was not impressive at all. I'll take a late season undefeated Neyland crowd over the same BD crowd anyday.

No problem but I had no negative purpose for it. I was just UT in there as well. I have seen more CFB in Knoxville than anywhere else. So I have taken in the atmosphere alot and enjoyed it.

If you consider a good gameday experience a bunch of morbidly obese uneducated people screaming obscentities at the top of their lungs then yes TTown has it on lock.

I am dead serious. That is my experience w/ Tuscaloosa.

I have had those in Knoxville as well.

I understand a fan to take pride in their team but I have yet to visit any stadium, except say the Rose Bowl where I thought some of the fans could be done without. My worst experience was at USC in Columbia. A horrible game day experience and an even more awful city.

True.

I had about 2-3 HUGE people wearing me out for being a Tennessee fan. Wild ravenous bunch they were, the women were worse than the men.

I'm just messing TW, I know there are pretty women all over the south.

I thought all the Bear love was a bit cultish, but I can't say that my experience in B.D. wasn't fun.

In the end though, I'll take a Saturday in Neyland over anywhere in the country.

LOL, however you want to slice it. I was quoting Urban Meyer in response to a post about "I don't understand the appeal about Clemson, etc." It was completely relevant to the topic at hand. What is completely irrelevant is the gameday atmosphere that you keep trying to bring this discussion to. There is no need for me to defend the gameday atmosphere at Clemson.

I'll give it to you. I did post that waay too late at night, with too much of the sauce in me. Couldn't sleep yet, and so I decided to get on VN.

Your school is in a nice town, and it kicks the crap out of Columbia. (We can both agree on that?)

I have been to Clemson for gameday and not knocking it and enjoyed it. The gameday experience is not just the game itself but the all the events leading up to it. Like the tailgaters that show up days before the event. The festivities outside the stadium on game day. Clemson is fun but sorry I will not compare it to the campuses in the SEC. No offense but no matter how you sell it Clemson does not have the tradition in football that like UA, UT, or UGA have in CFB. And I am not asking you to defend it.

In regards to your original post you might need to slow down. Because for a college I think Clemson is one of the best and I understand the appeal and why it is picked. I have never understood why people knock it unless they have not been there and not just for gameday. I was actually responding to your post and another that you were quoting as well.

But you are kidding yourself if you think it is irrelevant when recruiting a football player and how they measure the gameday atmosphere. If that was not true why do the majority of football recruits take their OVs during a huge game weekend, because the staff is selling gameday and football, not the overall appeal of campus life.

Clemson's gameday atmosphere is a HUGE selling point in recruiting, not something we have to shy away, which is what you make it sound like. Get over yourslef Tidewarrior.

Florida State quarterback Chris Rix, “Florida was loud in the Swamp. But the loudest, not only stadium, but the loudest place I have been around in my life was definitely Death Valley. I was yelling at the top of my lungs in that first series, and I couldn’t even hear what I was saying.”

Clemson gamedays might not be UT or TTown but it's no slouch and it's much better than many other SEC teams.

Yeah, LSU is pretty loud too :)

Disagree completely. I have been to multiple SEC games and enjoyed Clemson every bit as much if not more than all of them.
