'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

This is just proof that we need to keep the rock painting tradition for bigtime recruits coming up here. It makes an impression on a kid knowing that the fan base wants them there just as much as the coaching staff does. Especially when fans take the time out of their schedule to paint a big ass rock to show them that.

Much love Ertel

Yes great job on the rock! His mom couldnt believe the fans knew who her son was. Apparently she made comments about how passionate our fans must be.

Also coming from his mom. DG takes notes on every visit he makes to each school, a pros and cons list. He has nothing listed on the con side when it comes to Tennessee, the only school she could say that about.

If she thinks we're passionate b/c of The Rock, we need to make sure that Neyland is rockin when they come up for their OV in the fall....

You'll have to come back out next time hville. I'm sure we will have some other big timers soon.

I will do my best to keep the rock from being painted over this fall. Sucks when you guys get the rock painted and the recruit/s never gets he opportunity to see it. A few of us have been discussing ideas on how to handle this. Painting the rock may or may not get a recruit to sign with Tennessee, but it cant hurt. I bet D Green never forgets the rock regardless where he signs. Its something he will never see on a visit to any other school.
So yes, painting the rock does matter. Just how much is up for debate.

good to hear bro. we need some representation from the actual students.

Most students keep up with the team, but not so much with recruiting. It's hard to keep up with unless you follow religiously.. It's one of those things you either follow closely, or don't follow at all.

I think if the kid really likes the school it can set his interest over the top. But if he's not really interested it doesn't matter. I don't know, just thinking out loud.

ive got a buddy with the fire dept at the station near campus, need to see if we can get them to post up next to it and just hit anyone who tries to paint over it with the hose lol that would make them reconsider

i would agree. if nothing else its a fun personal touch. i mean its one thing to have your name on posters and banners on game night in your home town its a whole different story to see it painted up hundreds of miles from home where you wouldnt expect the average fans to have any clue who you were.

Why not bring in a second rock in a different location? One for fraternities or whoever.

Grew up a big Buckeye fan and idolized Eddie George. I think they will be in it to the end

They will likely stick around in the process, but I just don't see Urbie's offense being the fit to highlight Green's skill set. Naturally his skills are going to show on the field, but if he wants to exhibit what will be asked of him in the League, I would go to a more traditional offense where he will get the rock behind a big o-line, not on a bunch of gimmicky shovel passes.
