What Buck Fitzgerald said

If the question is "Did Kiffin inherit a deep, talented team?" The answer is no. If the question is "Did Kiffin inherit a deeper, more talented, more experienced team than Dooley in either of his first two years?" The answer is yes. Neither inherited a good situation and the result for the last three seasons reflect that.

Fulmer pretty much ran the roster into the ground with poor recruiting, bad evals, and terrible program discipline. Kiffin was going to do better with the first two and improve the roster by shear volumes of talented guys... there was going to be high attrition however. Dooley has had good in program discipline and relatively low attrition. We will soon see if the talent is there to pay off on the field.

I'd say that is pretty accurate.

That is what happens when you have players come for coaches, not the school. A majority of that class wanted to play for Kiffin, not for Dooley, and not for UT. Who knows how many of them would still be here had Kiffin stayed.

All players go to schools for the coaches. Look at Bama. The kids come because of Saban. Not because it Bama.

???

Kids came to bama during their 11 year skid. Kids come to bama for bama. Saban being a great recruiter just cements it.

I agree, instead of cherry picking the South, Alabama can cherry pick the majority of the East Coast.

That's really the only difference.

Here is my near worthless 2 cents worth.

I think the OP is definitly on to something here. Regardless of last years W/L's, we have a great shot at the East this year. I mean, there are folks out there that are saying Mizzou has a chance to win the east their first year in the SEC.

Our schedule this year is the easiest it has been in some time. The only OOCG we really even need to look at is NC St., so let's look at CG's.

Fl....beatable (at least this year)
Ga...depends on what Ga team shows up, but beatable
M St.....should win, but not counting them out this year
Al.....hoping, but not even going to go there
SCe.....beatable, even in their house
Mizzou....not in our house....beatable (plus, 1st year SEC deer in headlights look of what have we gotten into)
Vandy...don't care how close the game was last year. We win
Ky.....throw out all the last year bs you want. Not happening. We win.

We have a good shot at the East.

Go Vols!

The fact that a thread about such positive comments from a former Vol has devolved to this is disgusting.

Oh well, what do you want from "Justin-IhatedooleysomuchthatIdon'tsleepatnight-Grooves" who is just an alt of Volbeef aka Small Mike.

Justin/Beef, heard you hating on Pat Summit AGAIN this morning.

I echo a previous statement. justin used to be a solid poster who I respected and enjoyed. It's really sad to see what he has become.

We're discussing year three.

Yep, Kiffin's boys were sophs and jrs in year two. They quit. Year three Kiffin's boys will be jrs and srs. Yet to see if they will quit then since they were too good to go to a lower tier bowl last year. I am hoping Bray doesn't lay down halfway through the season and Petterman or Worley are starting. I too still remember KY and as far as I can tell CDD didn't get in the lineup. Bray did.

So the loss is on Bray, not Dooley? If Dooley survives this season it will be behind Bray's ARM.

Some people just want to see the world burn.

And others just want to rag on old women they don't know from the safety of their dial-up internet account.

He's such a man's man. I'll bet he flexes in the mirror after soaking in ax body spray.

I can agree with this, but Dooley's team this year is deeper and more talented than Kiffin's team in 2009.

No question whatsoever. In fact, I would say it is more "talented" two deep IMO than any Vol team since '05.

It is now a test of coaching and leadership from Dooley and the staff he chose. Roster problems were REASONS for the past two years. They would now be excuses for two reasons: 1) UT has a near full roster of players made up of guys from top 15 classes and 2) if there are problems with depth and experience... Dooley has had 3 classes to do something about it.

That's what happens when you've vested yourself into a certain opinion instead of just being a fan of the team.

Right, Justin's not a fan. He's just someone who always hated Dooley with a deep personal vendetta. What other reasons could someone have for criticizing someone who has been so successful?

Mirrored ceilings and floors by God :)

I didn't realize making fun of a 40 some odd year old momma's boy is "ragging on old women"

My opinion of Dooley will change when coaches don't leave for lateral moves, when players don't run the locker room, when academics aren't a huge issue and when fans aren't praying for 8 wins.

I think Derek Dooley is a guy that's way in over his head. I don't blame him for taking a significant pay raise. I blame Hamilton and the BOT.

I still want the Vols to succeed. I don't care if Dooley is the HC or not, as long as the Vols win. I just doubt it happens with him at the helm.
