Mods, can we correctly spell his first name? I believe it is Devante, not Devonate.

You said something then!

You saw what happened to Tana Patrick and Jerell Harris down there. Patrick doesn't play and Jerell just started playing this year. Then you got your CJ Mosleys, Trey DePriests and Nico Johnsons(my favorite LB in the country right now) that play early and often. I like recruiting a lot of good players instead of being stuck in a hole when a couple of guys at LB decommit right before signing day.

OP, no offense intended, but could we please get this guy's name spelled correctly (as well as his high school and home county) in the thread title? Again, I'm not trying to be a hiney-hole. Thanks, man!

my bad, I've seen his name spelled 4 different ways and I just C & P it here...GBO!
:good!:

Bringing in a lot "Jack" players. Sunseri is recruiting like Saban to an extent right now. Flooding the position group with good players and seeing who turns out. I like this style of recruiting personally. You don't have a choice but to play and compete everyday in practice.

The strong side LB is opposite of the Jack LB with coverage responsibilities.

Per 247, Tennessee is now the leader for Covington & he plans to be back for the Orange & White game. He said we are recruiting him as a "StrongSide LB"

Excellent news. I like this kid a lot! I have a feeling he's going to end up a pretty major national recruit before all is said and done. Maybe this will help out with his teamate as well.

New article on VQ. He says he will be coming back to campus soon and that he's very comfortable with Tennessee. The article also mentioned that he has a South Carolina offer.

Thanks! Yeah, I know what you mean: I've seen it spelled a few different ways as well. We'll go with what you currently have on the OP though. Sounds good! ha!

Love the sheer numbers of athletes we're in on defense this recruiting cycle. It's always easier to make gourmet meals when you have enough ingredients to work with. Definitely can't say our staff isn't perusing the stores. The purchases will come. Be patient.

Covington isn't coming to the O&W game now. He is going to N.C. States Spring game instead.

Leader here

Did something happen since then?
Maybe we're just reading too much into it. It's just a spring game. Maybe there were schedule conflicts? Maybe he will reschedule for us?

I'm starting to think Sal Sunseri's top D recruits are very different from what the average VN reader is led to believe.

Indeed.

Or at least we can hope so. We can hope there's a plan. It's still way early right now. It's just tough seeing other teams' commit lists growing. And its Especially tough when players like LBs slip away. But the coaches may not be worried.

Many teams commitment list grew over the last couple weeks when they had their spring games. UT's is this weekend, I suspect a commitment or two will happen. But even if that doesn't happen, I'm not too worried. At this point in the last two recruiting cycles the commitment list was basically empty and in this class there are already four very good prospects committed.

Definitely agree that our situation is better this year than the last two years.

I wouldn't be as concerned if the LBs and OLs on our board stopped committing elsewhere or naming others their leader.

It will work out

First off, I know it's early, but I have been wondering what's going on with recruiting lately. I have heard very little recruiting news with us lately other than someone committed somewhere else or the only two names that I have heard vising recently or might be committing to us very soon is two people that seem borerline recruits. Maybe these are role players to start the base of recruiting or they see more in them than other elite schools. My main point is I have heard recruiting news for other teams more than for Tennessee in the past month.

The reason you haven't heard much is because other teams have already had their spring game and UT's hasn't happened yet. Also, this week is the beginning of coaches being allowed to travel to HS's, evaluate players, and talk to coaches. They still can't talk to the kids other than the 'bump rule'. But they can talk to coaches. You will start to hear much more about UT and recruiting very soon...

I did consider the spring game being later than most, but did not know about this week beginning of coaches being allowed to travel etc. Thanks for the info.:hi:
