Clemson offered. Still open. Really focused his consideration on the schools that have verbally offered at this point.

At last weekend’s Shrine Bowl combine in Asheville, Covington checked in at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds. He ran a 4.65 40-yard dash and a 4.26 in the in the 20-yard shuttle. He also had a 29-inch vertical and bench pressed 185 pounds 11 times.

- Scout. Clemson offered. Plans on making a decision in August.

Yep. His strength level needs serious improvement. He is athletic and has good upside but he could probably benefit from a RS IMO.

Wow.

Goes to show what two good (not even great) seasons can do for a program. Even a S Car. Imagine what it will do for us.

Thing is the s car fanbase stuck with Stevie during the first few middling years. Question is will our fanbase do the same for CDD?

I hope Dooley succeeds, but there is a difference. For one Spurrier was a proven commodity. For two, it was South Carolina, after some of those last seasons with Brad Scott making a bowl game was a real accomplishment for them. Not to mention they have never had the football tradition that we do.

Even in the middling years SC was doing pretty well compared to the previous years (starting 5-0, 6-1 before collapsing at least ha) and recruiting as well as the school ever had, which definitely helps.

I agree there are differences.

Just hope our fans dont get too restless. And I hope CDD doesn't give us reason to be of course.

This came out of nowhere. After he attended a Junior day he sounded pretty meh on SC and the 247 guys thought SC had a lot of work to do.

One of our posters had just said (back a page or so) that he was planning on deciding in August. haha! Like I said in another thread, to be 17 again. You just do things at that age. Most likely he'll stick with USC though. I'm from NC, and Richmond County (where Covington plays at) is right on the border with South Carolina. It's close to home, so he's probably comfortable with that, even though the whole "make my decision in August" thing is a bit disconcerting.

Huge difference. It's the same when people try to compare Saban when he arrived at Alabama and Dooley at Tennessee. I hope Dooley succeeds but clearly at this point the jury is still out. He doesn't have the resume of past success to fall back on like Saban and Spurrier did.

He also doesn't have the recruiting base that both of those coaches did/do.
