I am just now watching yankeeintenn's new youtube video of the 93 south carolina game. I remember when I was younger my dad would always say UT is going to be so much better without nilo silvan. What was the deal with this guy? Did he do something bad, or was he just a crappy player?

Nilo Silvan was charged with the rape of a 17 year old girl in September of 1995. Although he was exonerated of the charges, he never played for the Volunteers again. He then spent a whole seven games in the NFL as a kick and punt returner. The girl he supposedly raped was actually Joey Kent's girlfriend at the time. Tennessee never received much production from Silvan, and so I don't think he was really missed as he was a liability in the passing game and only serviceable as a kick returner. In fact, in just nine games, Devrin Young had as many returns and nearly as many return yards. I'm not sure if your dad was complaining about the off-the-field stuff or his on-the-field issues, but that is Nilo in a nutshell.

I believe he had a special teams td. They are so few and far between, I think I remember each one.

NITRO Nilo he was billed. Dude was fast fast fast. I am pretty sure if you get EA sports video games for NCAA. He is their generic NCAA kickoff return record listed.

He had a lot of off the field issues. But, his end around against Washington state in 94 sealed that game for us. Man that guy was fast.

He could fly. Dumb as a box of nails but could flat out scoot.

The biggest thing I remember is him fumbling the opening second half kickoff against Florida in 1993. UT scored right before half to cut it to 7 and had the momentum, and that totally killed it.

UT's done that a ton against that bunch...last year no exception.

I remember him as a good football player, not a liability but an asset on the field. Too bad he got into the trouble off the field, because I believe he had more big plays in him that we never got to see.

He won the 1994 Washington State game with a reverse run of something like 60+ yards. It was Peyton Manning's first start as a Vol. Final score was something like 10-9.

I remember thinking he got a raw deal on the rape thing and I also remember him being cleared of it with a couple games left in the season but Fulmer wouldn't let him come back. He went undrafted but played 3/4 years in the pros.

Fulmer prob knew that Kent was Peytons buddy, and if it la true about Kent's GF then Fulmer didn't want to divide the locker room

Yep; Jay Graham's fumble in 1995 started an avalanche too.

Can't forget the early 2000's GA game fumble @ their 1 yd line that they returned 99 yds for a 14 point swing to end the half. I'm still sick over that one! Anybody remember what I'm talking about know if that was the "hobnail boot" game?

No, the hobnail boot play was two years earlier (01) and was on the defense / Chavis . What you're referencing was 03 and was due to a CClausen/Davis/Houston mishandle. Now that I think of it that game might have been the beginning of the wnd of fulmers demise more than the 01 LSU game

No Hobnail boot was in 2001 when Ga. drove 60 yards in the last minute of the game. The 99 yard fumble return was in 03. Both games make me angry just thinking about them.
