nilo silvan?

Nilo Silvan was charged with the rape of a 17 year old girl in September of 1995. Although he was exonerated of the charges, he never played for the Volunteers again. He then spent a whole seven games in the NFL as a kick and punt returner. The girl he supposedly raped was actually Joey Kent's girlfriend at the time. Tennessee never received much production from Silvan, and so I don't think he was really missed as he
was a liability in the passing game and only
serviceable as a kick returner. In fact, in
just nine games, Devrin Young had as many
returns and nearly as many return yards.
I'm not sure if your dad was complaining
about the off-the-field stuff or his on-the-field
issues, but that is Nilo in a nutshell.

I remember this, I was in the 6th or 7th grade. That was the first off the field scandal I ever remember happening at UT.

Nilo was a friendly guy. I met him several times while I was I school. Went to Miami after Shane Burton signed with the fins and saw a preseason game between the fins and bucs. Nilo ran a kickoff back for a TD in that game. Fun times! GBO!!!

No Hobnail boot was in 2001 when Ga. drove 60 yards in the last minute of the game. The 99 yard fumble return was in 03. Both games make me angry just thinking about them.

I was at the hobnail boot game and remember Travis Stephens scoring on a screen pass from about 60-70 yds out to take the lead with just about a minute left in the game. Neyland absolutely erupted. That's the loudest I have ever heard Neyland. Then we tried a squib kick that UGA brought out to around midfield that set them up for their game winning drive. Ill never forget how bad that felt going from pure elation thinking we had won in the last minute to losing like that. Still hurts just thinking about it. I almost got in several fights walking out of the stadium that day.

Washington State.

Actually, he ran a reverse TD in both games. The one against WSU in '94 won the game and was from scrimmage. The reverse TD against Louisville in 1993 was on a punt return and was at the end when the game was decided. As I recall, there was a feeling that the score against Lousiville was "running up the score". Trying for style points near the end.

Nilo Sylvan was a blazer and had incredible speed.

The squib... I just threw up in my mouth a little bit...

As I recall Washington State had the #1 D at the time and mid way through the season, no one had scored a rushing TD on them yet. We were the first.

Seem to remember Nilo was only a Sophomore and many of us had very high hopes for him. Reminds me of Dale Carter in that when he was back receiving kicks, you never knew what was going to happen but you knew it was going to be exciting. Everyone was at the edge of their seat.

Too bad he ended out being an idiot off the field.

WOW!!! It wasn't the first. I remember back in 90' just before the Florida thrashing when (I think) two players tag teamed a girl in Gibbs. Think Majors kicked three off for that and two were starters and still rolled to a 45-3 thumping!
