Home Brewers

Just yeasted a batch using this formula. You did not say how much brown sugar, we used 2 Tbsp. Decided to go with 100% home grown Pumpkin, no canned pumpkin, pumpkin pie mix or pumpkin spice.

Time will tell......

Yea for some reason I didn't put how much brown sugar in my notes. I'm thinking I used a quarter cup but not sure. 2 tbsp should be fine.

USAF Vol - this is a first for us. Seems your active yeast is contagious. The baby burped so hard it popped the cork off. Thing is burping harder than Homer Simpson.

Must be something in the air this time of year.

What kind of yeast was it? I used the wueat smack packs. Did you hook up a blow off.

I searched on yooutube for videos of blown up fermenters, pretty crazy/funny.

Didn't pay close attention to what kind of yeast other than a dry pack. Obviously very hungry yeast.

No blow off attached, it's in my buddy's basement. He's not too worried about it.

Got my brown ale bottle conditioning and a dry irish stout kit ready for this weekend.

Got a ton of yard/house work though

Not surehowyou mean. It was a dry Irish stout extract kit from northern brewer

Most of the time, it will be a scale from 3 to 20 at the bottom of the kit(if you look in the magazine). This will indicate what you should expect the finishing color to be

Did you use Dark malt extract or Amber?

Reading some on other forums the color will darken after fermentation and conditioning.

Making me feel better. There are some things you can add to darken, don't know about that.

How was your oatmeal stout count? Where the hell is steve?

Had a boil over because I was brewing outside and put a lid on. Started with 3 gallons and ended with 2. SG was still 1.046 when I tested it, so thats on point.

Its dark for sure. Got it in the fermenter now

I don't believe I will have a boil over, I have a gargantuan brew kettle. It is 7 gallons and these extracts only require about 3 gallons or so per boil.

Is it brown, black or what?

Mine is fermenting away. Bubbly bubbly in the closet. It is dark, but not black like I had hoped.

My irish stout is in the primary. Will be a week on sat. My nut brown will be ready this weekend. Putting a few in the fridge and let the rest age another week.

The day is here. My first homebrew. I put one in the fridge this morning to chill. Why one, tomorrow is my actual born date according to the timeline.

I got my glass and first. Opened and heard the psssssst, like any beer would have. No overflow, just the smoke (Very happy with that, appears the prime amount was spot on).

The pour, nice a smooth, carbonated well, I can see the head form. Finished with a good, half inch head. This was a brown ale so its dark with a off white head.

Smell, the malt is very obvious, not much of any nut smell, but the grain was very minimal.

Tastes great! Very dry and a clean finish. Very happy with how this came out.

My Dad will be in town tomorrow, glad I get to let him try my first batch. He doesn't have to know I snuck one in early.
