Home Brewers

Hot damn, going to go ahead and call this complete success. Unbelievable how happy I am about this batch. Total believer and 100% have the homebrew bug.

Racked the stout to the secondary ;ast night. Hydrometer reading was 1.010, going to be low ABV. Not thrilled about that....

1.040 just like the kit says. Can't be too mad, it is a low starting gravity I suppose.

Wouldn't worry too much about it. I've gotten some crazy readings before when I thought it was far too low only to have the batch be fine.

Keep at it! The weather is making for some awesome evening chill tasting sessions! :)

Not really a big stout fan but am interested to find out how yours turns out. Maybe you can convince me I need to expand the comfort zone.

Looking good in the secondary. Starting to blacken again (Not a neighborhood watch member). The yeast swirl tends to lighten it. Think the color will be GTG by the time it is bottle conditioned.

Been looking hard at all-grain setups and instructions. Not as crazy as I imagined but a little intimidating nonetheless.

Any pics Count? My brown ale aged another week is still fantastic. Better head retention I notice off the bat. Not much flavor difference.

I've got great reviews from my gifts to friends. Going to brew the next kit this weekend only to give my equipment cleaning time between bottling. My Stout should be ready to bottle at a week after the next brown ale.

I will once its done in the bottle

Everyone I gave an Irish Red said it was great

Cant wait to try the stout

Does the oatmeal stout require single and secondary fermentation? Or just single?

I do secondary on all of mine

Helps with the clarity and overall taste

You could do a single stage fermentation, but you will have more yeast at the bottom of the bottle

You try the irish moss to help with clarity. Read alot of brews. I will try some if I ever brew anything that should be clear. I am a bug fan of dark/stout brew. No need for clarity there.

Not yet

My next brew, just for ****s and giggles is going to be an Imperial Stout.

Its a 12 month fermentation and the alcohol should be about 12%

Anyone on here ever brewed a cream ale? I did for the first time this year and it wasnt exactly what I expected. Dont get me wrong, its good. I'm sure as hell not gonna pour it out but I was expecting a very light summer time lawn mower type beer. It is almost amber in color and hoppier than I expected. I may cut back on the hops next time.

Never have, where did you get it? Extract or all grain?

It was an extract kit from midwestsupplies.com
I'm trying to remember if I squeezed the grain bag before removing it from the wort. Sometimes I do sometimes I don't. If I did that would explain the slightly darker color. As for the hops its certainly not too hoppy just more than expected. I'll brew it again. I guess my confusion is because I've only had cream ale once before and it was a very light summer ale. I like to brew one or two of those this time of year. I think I'll sample a few more tonight. :)

I think I'm going to do a couple of wheat beers next. I'm looking at the Belgian wheat and the American wheat from northernbrewer.com

I am going to get one of the pick fruit wheats from northern closer to summer. Maybe do a cherry or raspberry.

Will do the american wheat too, want just a wheat with no fruit.

Of course going to try a pumpkin kit come october.

You look into lagering? I am keeping an eye out for a cheap mini fridge to use as a fermentation chamber.

Anyone going to the craft beer festival in East Nashville on Saturday? I'll be there.

Awesome, hope you have fun. I would be blasted going to one of those. I need to look at Atlanta happenings.

I've spent many a Friday and Saturday afternoons sitting on the deck at the Sweetwater brewery. One of my favorite parts about living in Atlanta. (At least part-time)
