Coach Martin vs. Coach Dooley (merged)

Bama wasn't near as depleted as we were at the time. You would need to compare losing Hightower plus 3 more of whoever their best players were, then also put them against the type of competition we played. The combined record of the teams we played against in the West was 35-4 and two of those played in the NC game.

True, but they still nutted up. I'm sorry, if we are blaming the season and said it was lost because our WR tore his knee, then there are other issues. Yeah, he's a damn good wide receiver. We still shouldn't be hearing excuses about his injury in freakin March.

People...basketball and football are two different sports. Both are two different coaches. Football in the SEC is tougher and a bigger deal. Also, our football team had 3 coaches in 4 years...basketball just had their 1st one this year. While this basketball team is surprising...THESE ARE 2 DIFFERENT SPORTS, and the football team, to me anyway, faced a lot more turmoil than the basketball program. Also, Derek Dooley wasn't a full time loser at Louisiana Tech...he kind of took them to a bowl game there...but I guess no one cares to see that...comparing the two coaches is seriously one of the dumbest things i've heard of.

Hunter is the most important player on the team. The players still played hard until Bray got hurt. The players fought back in the UF game and they played hard against UGA. Once Bray went down, I think that's when they lost hope. I remember reading about how the life was just sucked out of them when Bray went down.

Hunter is not the most important player on the team. It's Bray, then (before being kicked off) J.J., and then Hunter.

And you don't remember the first half of that game when they laid down? Sure they came back. Helped Florida went completely conservative and we threw 50 times.

Okay, I need to say something here.

Losing Bray sucked. Hard. I'm not denying that. But with basketball, you got only 12-13 players. It's not the same. You got plenty of players that can help step up. You lost your best player, it's a completely different animal. Yeah, losing Hunter sucked. We shouldn't be saying at the end of the season "Oh, this season was lost when Hunter got hurt." Alabama lost Dont'a Hightower for 2009. Did that hold them back? Hell no. They nutted up and played ball. Saban's team was able to overcome adversity, while Dooley's team folded.

Hightower was no where near the level of importance to the team as Hunter was. You have to remember that Shula recruited very well for Saban. I think 16 starters on the NC team were upperclassmen not recruited by Saban. He had players to bring in for injury. Dooley didn't have that luxury.

You can build a team around freshmen in basketball, you can't do that in football. Martin has done great things here and Im excited about the future of the bball team but you can't compare the two.

You have a less number of players to step up, but also one or two players can keep you in the game and win you the game. Look how much of an impact Stokes made. There is not one freshman in all of college football that could have made that big of an impact.

Hunter is the most important. He is the most talented player on the field. He makes everyone around him much better. Hunter opens up so much for you on offense.

They did and then they fought back and turned it into a ball game. UF could have easily put up 35 in the first half but the defense played hard to hold them to field goals which was crucial. We were only down by 9, I think, at half time and it should have been a lot worse. The team never gave up.

I have to disagree. He is the most talented player we have, but if we can receive a snap and get the ball to him, he's useless.

Worley and Simms would have been able to get him the ball. He would have gotten open. Bray got shut down against UGA. Not one player from UGA would have shut down Hunter. He would have opened up a lot more for our other recievers and our run game would have been a lot better because their main focus was Hunter.

He makes a difference, no doubt. But, I stand by my point. You have to get the ball to them. Simms couldn't get the ball to a receiver in ghost coverage drills. I know it was his freshman year, but I didn't see a whole lot in Worley to make as confident of a declaration as you did.

It doesn't matter about the qb. Of course Bray is going to be way more successful than Simms and Worley, but Hunter would have gotten 100 yards in a lot of games with or without Bray. Simms and Worley would have easily gotten Hunter tha ball.

Doesn't matter about the QB? Come on. No way you believe that. Every play starts with the QB. I will agree that the QB doesn't have to be a super star all the time, but doesn't matter?

Serious question. Have you ever coached the game in competitive school ball?

I think we need a catch all thread for the "he's on my ignore list." List

Amen. It's one of the most ignorant aspects of this site. I have been on my soapbox about it for a while. It's like it's a competition. Too bad for those guys that life doesn't have an ignore button. What's the rationale for announcing an ignore or even ignoring period?

'I'm gonna show all those folks that I disagree with. I'll announce that I have ignored them. Yeah, that'll show 'em.' Smh. The height of closed minded immaturity.

I can't believe he's trying to say that a wide receiver is more important than a first round talent at QB. That's crazy.

Should you feel slighted if you have never made such a list?

To my knowledge I have never been threatened with such a move. May be time to go controversial and see what happens.

They did? When it was 33-7 after 8 minutes in the third? That's fighting back?

I got put on ignore by one poster: UTVOL02, which I consider a compliment anyways. Isn't he gone now?

It doesn't matter. Calvin Johnson still got his stats with Jon Kitna, Andre Johnson still got his stats with David Carr, Randy Moss got his stats with Daunt'e Culpepper, Fitzgerald got his stats with Kevin Kolb and Josh Skelton.

Do you want more examples?

Im 20 so no

It was 16-7 at half. After the 3rd, the score was 30-13. The team scored 10 points in the 4th to make 33-23 and was about to score again until Bray threw the pick with about 4 mins left.

I'm sure I have. I have never been overtly nasty, but I'm sure many disagree with my views. That's grounds for some to ignore. I suspect Volmaster14 put me on ignore today. Oh well, his loss if so. I am proud to announce to VN that I'm a big boy that is secure in my views and rationales. I have never nor will I ever use that cop out known as the ignore button.
