Each of those definitions has different applications. Creationism is an abstract thought and a theory, but not a scientific theory. You can't compare Big Bang and ID with the same definition of theory. Learn to dictionary.

Confused perhaps

Science will keep me alive should I wind up in the hospital. Faith won't.

disagree wholeheartedly, not saying that science is not a method of keeping people alive, but you flat out saying that faith will not is "dead" wrong, doctors time and time again admit that

Maybe, but there is no proof that faith kept them alive, unless it was faith in medicine, and in that case, fair enough :p

no, why.......I am not saying that I would do it to prove my faith to any one here on VN

I wouldn't expect you to nor ask you to prove your faith to me or anyone else here...that is a deeply private issue. I am just taken aback at your level of faith. That's all.

no other explanation other than God, not saying that every person has faith in God, as evidence here on VN, but the doctors give no other explanation other than "divine forces"

I would ask to take her place, but if it came down to it, I know we would be together again.....and by the way, Thanks

I'm going to state again how well the discussions in this thread have been. There really haven't been any personal attacks. It's refreshing to read, and several good point have been made by both sides. Thanks for demonstrating the class that many people forget sometimes, VN!

Are you saying when people get unexplicably better, and science and modern medicine can't explain it, it was the work of God?

If so, is the flip side true as well? When people fall inexplicably ill for no reason and science and modern medicine can't explain it, it was the work of God?

Both instances happen, the faithful tend to focus on the former and claim "miracle", while discarding all other instances that say otherwise.

I'm not gonna lie...if something terrible were to happen to me or my family and somebody said to me ''it was part of Gods plan'' I would punch them.

Haha can't blame ya... I'm just trying to provide a somewhat reasonable answer... I've had one family member die in the past year, and then two months later, another was diagnosed with cancer and isn't expected to make it too much longer. It's hard to deal with, but I understand your feelings.

You really need to stop making up your own definitions.
I think you are confused.

When you are talking science, theory has a very specific meaning. A theory only qualifies as a theory after a hypothesis is tested and the predictions match reality.

What is the ``scientific method''?
The scientific method is the best way yet discovered for winnowing the truth from lies and delusion. The simple version looks something like this:

1. Observe some aspect of the universe.
2. Invent a tentative description, called a hypothesis, that is consistent with what you have observed.
3. Use the hypothesis to make predictions.
4. Test those predictions by experiments or further observations and modify the hypothesis in the light of your results.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until there are no discrepancies between theory and experiment and/or observation.

When consistency is obtained the hypothesis becomes a theory and provides a coherent set of propositions which explain a class of phenomena. A theory is then a framework within which observations are explained and predictions are made.

Incidentally, that is why I question the validity of calling evolution a theory. To me, it seems to qualify as a hypothesis, because I am not sure how it is testable.
