As was I.

My Dad raised me as a HUGE Tennessee football fan.

My Grandmother and all of my Dad's siblings raised me as a Memphis basketball fan.

I get hated on it all of the time claiming I am not a "true fan" of either team. The heartache, elation, time and money I spend on each of these teams says otherwise. :salute:

To each his own I guess, but I've never gotten cheering for different schools based on the season.

Some people I know have parents who attended different schools, and if one is Duke and one is Michigan, I can see where the 2 schools thing comes in. It would be hard to pick one.

But I have trouble seeing how you can like one team for one sport, and another team for another with no connection either way.

In that case, to be a true fan, you have to root for Duke in Football and Michigan in Basketball. :)

My friend's dad went to Duke and Pitt. I wonder how he makes up his mind who to root for. I think he likes both teams, but Pitt more.

Rooting for both isn't as bad as rooting for one or the other depending on the sport.

It can be. I know one kid who likes Duke and North Carolina and he has no affiliation to either school.

Well he lives in Ohio and likes Carolina and Duke.

Coming from Nc, that kid is the definition of ignorant and fair weather.

Who in the hell cares about the "State of Tennessee Basketball"???!!!

That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard! UNC fans don't root for NCSU, WFU, and Duke when they are in the tournament, and vice versa for the other schools.

If Memphis does well...it doesn't reflect on us. It doesn't help us. It makes no difference to us whether or not the team 6 hours away and at the opposite end of the state wins some games in the tournament. Calipari said that we are irrelevant. Screw that guy and his school. Kevin Stallings said Bruce Pearl was an idiot a**hole- so for all of you people who worship Pearl now, Why would you root for a man who disrespects our beloved coach?

If you root for either of those schools, you are not a true fan to the Vols.

I think you are failing to look at the bigger picture here.

1st) Who would you rather play if UT beats Ohio St?

2nd) Say UT beats Ohio State, and A&M beats Memphis. Wouldn't A&M play in their home state against us? Yes. Wouldn't that give them a some what Homecourt advantage? Yes...

Plus, A&M is a more physical team up front, which in my mind is just better overall than Memphis. So that my friend is why I am rooting for Memphis.



I guess to you I am no longer a Vol Fan. :huh:

I think both teams would beat us, to be honest.

Most of these people are not rooting for Memphis because of the matchups. I am responding to the people saying they are rooting for Memphis and Vandy for the "State of Tennessee"...see my quesiton that I asked.
