Big 10+1 Commisioner

Hey, if you fail at least 9 straight times to score while your opponent keeps racking up points, how much are you helping out?

Good point, but not when you see the total amount of points UF scored in those games. We scored enough in some of those to win, but other aspects of the team let us down, not PM. But yeah, he should have played safety.

No, but I know how to game plan for a particular team. Coaching football will do that to you. It also allows me to look at pretty much any given game I may happen to watch and see how well the offense and defense are patterned to the strength of the personnel.

Trust me, there's nothing more irritating than watching players who are well suited for something be forced into something different. It'd be like Nebraska saying "Hey, we've got a lot of quarterbacks who are pretty good athletically, have good handwork and footwork, and can read the front 7 on a defense in no time at all. Why don't we run something where all they have to do is either pass deep or else turn and hand the ball off?"

I personally have a contrarian viewpoint with my coaching. Me putting together an offense in the preseason is focused not only on what will allow us to have success against anyone, but also will give an added boost by making it nearly impossible for another team to adequately game plan for us in less than a week. I actually got that idea from someone who ran the single wing with great success (in 1999, we're talking) for that exact reason.
...and this has what to do with the fact that Martin was able to turn a very simple game plan into a National Championship while Manning was able to turn a complex game plan into 2 losses his senior year?

Everyone agree with therealUT that Manning could not hold a candle to Tee so he will quit talking

Well, if you are going to crack on someone for their age during this period in TN football, then you should probably make sure that you weren't a prepubescent youth at the same time...

Excuse me for not being born in 1945. It's safe to say I know more about football than a 16 year old on here knows.

Because Martin was operating in an offense that was patterned more to the overall strength of the personnel running it. The running game was UT's salvation against Syracuse and Florida...if Martin had been counted on to actually win the game for UT, it'd have been an early 0-2.

But it was a funny crack, so all should be forgiven. :p

Agreed.

But it was his first 2 games.

So you're saying a 6 year old has the same understanding of football as an 11 year old?

I shouldn't admit this, but I think I spent the entire 1998 season holding my breath every time Tee Martin dropped back to pass. He got the job done, but he scared me to death.

You can't expect a guy to be perfect his first 2 games as a starter.

I don't care if he was perfect...I would NEVER take Tee Martin over Peyton Manning, the fact that we are even having to try and and explain this concept to someone who think otherwise is completely absurd...

Fine if you think that, but just because Manning is better than a CFL starter doesn't mean he should have won the Heisman.
