'12 TX LB Dalton Santos (Texas Commit)

I am still trying to reconcile the following "facts" I have learned from this board/thread:

1. Texas sucks and will only suck worse over the next few years. The players suck and the coaches suck.
Texas like UF, UGA, FSU, Miami, and LSU will likely always have GREAT, not good, players knocking their doors down to play for them. Therefore they will always be a threat in their conference and nationally.

That said, Mack Brown is simply wasting that advantage. That is not to say that someone else could not waste it worse. But with your facilities, fans, traditions, location, homer appeal, etc... you should NEVER have seasons like the last two. You can blame that on assistants or players or whatever. But Brown has been in place long enough for those things to fall completely on him.

You have a Fulmeresque politician as your HC. You may win in spite of him... but you won't win because of him.

2. Dalton Santos is slow and fat and will suck at Texas but he fit the Tennessee system perfectly and would have been a high NFL draft pick if he had gone to Tennessee.
Unless he gets faster which is rare. You will recruit over him... and the Vols likely would have too. You can search my posts... let me know if you find anywhere that I was giddy over him.

3. Dalton will never start at Texas (even though all of the Texas players suck) and the few snap he does get will be at DE or Kicker or H-back.

If he plays for you this fall then it will be a sign of being thin at LB. If he plays for you next year then someone failed to recruit the LB position well... again.

He seems to be a fine kid. He has very good instincts and is a big hitter. Maybe he will be transformed into a dominant player by a college level S&C program. But unless he gets quicker and faster, he's going to struggle in pass D. Teams like OU, OSU, and even WVU will drool over matching him up with one of their speed guys.

I wish Dalton well. We surely don't need a guy using a schollie that is conflicted that much about where he wants to go to school - that is hanging his hat on a last minute chance to go to a his dream school and play under an underachieving HC like Mack Brown that will switch him from his position. Dalton does not have the heart of a Vol. Save it for someone that does.

You are quoting the ignorant minority. No one here whose opinion matters truly believes Texas is a sub-par program or that Dalton will be a fat nobody there. Everyone on this board who is angry with Dalton are ridiculous. It's became personal for them because they've followed them, but Dalton knows none of us.

With that said, we of course think Texas sucks because it's not Knoxville. I'm sure you feel the same way about anybody not named UTjr.

I think you quoted the wrong poster.

I have nothing personal against Santos. I just don't think he was as good, at least right now, as many here apparently believed... until of course he flipped to Texas.

Yeah I feel no guilt about saying that I have questions about the guy's ability because I had them all along. I don't run guys down in public very much and with this guy I would have been mauled by many posters here for doubting Santos' ability.

But I honestly think Rivals took a long look at him. I suspect his lack of SEC level speed and quickness caused them to keep him a 3*. Maybe he becomes a star. I just don't think he will or would have at UT.

At the very least...he was not going to be an immediate contributor.

I agree, I hope he does well. I think if his dad was neutral there is no doubt that he would be in Knoxville, but that wasn't the case. Kid had so much pressure against him to choose Texas.

People telling him to man up are ridiculous. He's not married and is still in many ways a kid. It's hard to be truly mad at him. Don't get me wrong, wouldn't mind putting a horse dosage of ex-lax in his dad's coffee, but that's it! :)

But they have had better talent and have done nothing with it.I do think he will get lost in the depth chart.I kinda feel sorry for him.We as fans loved him .Down there he is just another player.Next year they will get a high ranked LB AND DS will be playing mop up.

Probably true. But it's what he wants; so he gets it. We need to forget this whole thread like we have forgotten Gabe Wright.

Yep, I thought all along he was coming to Tennessee because his skills were better suited to the SEC run-first game vs. the pass-happy Big Nine (or whatever they call themselves these days). I wonder if Dalton & his father are letting their hearts (love of the burnt orange) override their heads (best utilization of Dalton's skills).

Whatever, it's Dalton's life & he has to do what he thinks is best for him in the long run. Maybe he wants to own a car dealership in Van when he finishes school, who knows?

In 2016, Dalton will finally get to start in the middle....as pictured with his two outside linebackers...

Hubba, Bubba & Rubba.....They will be known as the Disco Three

Still showing that he is a VFL
