'12 TX LB Dalton Santos (Texas Commit)

That is why is why I think he'll morph into a DE at Texas. He is like a clone of Brian Robison who came to Texas as a LB very similar in size to DS, switched to DE, started and was huge on the national title team and is doing well at DE with the Vikings.

did I miss something... has he committed to Texass :eek:hmy:

The other thing with your situation is that you walked on at UT Martin, so of course, it's a no-brainer that if Tennessee said, "hey, come up here and walk-on at a different position", then you would go. You would go, even if you were on scholarship at UT Martin, most likely. I know that I probably would too. However, comparing UT to UT Martin...well, there is no comparison as you know. However, comparing the programs of UT and Texas is more on an equal basis. It's not like he's coming to some lower tier program at UT...yes, we have been down, but we are still one of the top 10 programs in the country, and everyone knows (including these recruits in this class) that we are on the way back...it's only a matter of a short time (hopefully :)) Also, he has to know that his potential future for the NFL has a much higher ceiling if he stays at his natural position, which is MLB. It is a HUGE risk to make a position change...who knows how he will fit into that position? That's the question...he may be terrible! He may be awesome and better than at MLB, but it's a huge risk because no one knows, including himself.

I agree with you, again, that position changes can be a big risk; however, Tennessee is certainly not above that endeavor. For instance, wasn't Rajon Neal a RB in high school and UT moved him to WR and Marsalis Teague a WR and UT moved him to DB?

It happens everywhere......but I still want Santos to come to UT!!

A buddy of mine was sitting behind the girl that asked the question that ticked him off... Funny a** story.

I would have killed to be in the awkward tension of that room. I feel like it would have been really difficult not to laugh though.

I do respect him somewhat though. I mean, even if he did flip out, he stood up for his players. I'd take him on my team in a fight.

I'm watching it now, and can't help but laugh though

First of all, remember that we are on the same team. I want DS here as bad, if not worse, than anyone else here. I think he can be an absolute terror. I think we are arguing in agreement to some degree. I think Tennessee is the better fit for him, but, at this point, we aren't just talking about fit. We are talking about the ever changing mind of a kid and his dream. I have a fifteen year old daughter and I don't even try to keep up with her thoughts....I leave that to her mother. She changes her mind like she changes here socks. In addition to that, she wants to go to UK....makes me want to puke!! I'm hoping that changes!!

Secondly, I'm not trying to dispute that Texas intends on making him a DE. That very well may be the case. I was just asking if it was VN speculation, regardless of the football intellect arising at that speculation (to which is it easy to see some of the football minds on here....and then some not so much), or if Texas has told him that.

With that, the information below is the LBs that Texas has on their roster right now. I don't know who starts, who is second string, etc, but DS is 6-2, 245. He seems to fit into their LB characteristics. I also looked at DEs; they ranged from 217 (!) to 279. So it could go either way.

Emmanuel Acho, 6-2, 245, Sr.-3L, LB
Aaron Benson, 6-2, 233, Fr.-RS, LB
Demarco Cobbs, 6-2, 215, So.-1L, LB
Steve Edmond, 6-3, 255, Fr.-HS, LB
Jordan Hicks, 6-2, 235, So.-1L, LB
Tevin Jackson, 6-2, 230, Fr.-HS, LB
Chet Moss, 6-2, 242, Fr.-HS, LB
Cody Ramirez, 5-11, 195, Jr.-SQ*,LB
Keenan Robinson, 6-3, 240, Sr.-3L, LB
Brad Terry, 6-1, 221, Jr.-HS*, LB
Kendall Thompson, 6-3, 237, Fr.-HS, LB

Sorry if you thought that I was arguing with you...I am not. Simply stating my viewpoints with Santos. I don't know that anyone has heard it from the horse's mouth that Texas told him he would be a DE there...all speculation. Hope your daughter changes her mind about UK. My sister is a big UK fan (for what reason, I have no earthly idea), and it DOES make me puke. She looks so much better in the beautiful colors of orange and white versus blue.

What's worse is that my daughter is on the high school dance team.....National Champs last year (proud daddy). She wants to dance at UK....which means her mother is going to want to go to all the football and basketball games (assuming that she makes the dance team). I REFUSE to do it....it may cause a divorce!!

I agree. Position changes happen everywhere, and I am sure that ALL of VN will agree that Marsalis Teague will not be making it in the NFL at CB; however, he showed great promise as a true freshman at WR. That is his more natural position, and if we will move him back there this year, then we get A LOT more production out of him at WR than CB. I know that we will all agree on this point surely. On the other hand, I think Rajion with more experience will do very well at WR...I would personally love to see him get another chance though at RB w/ CJG coaching him up. So, take those 2 situations, and that's a 50% chance that changing positions will be somewhat successful. I am sure that the percentage may change with more numbers...don't have the info to give a better percentage prediction for outcome. If it is 50% though, then that is very risky. I am sure you agree. I am fine with Dalton not choosing us as long as he makes the choice to go to Texas because HE wants to go there...not because his parents and everyone under the sun from Van, Texas wants him to go there. Situations like Landon Collins had to deal with are just wrong in my eyes. You support your child wherever he chooses to go, whether you wanted that school or not!

You did inform you daughter that UT's dance team is awesome... in every aspect.

Ouch!!!! Yeah, I guess that apparently UK is very well known for their dance teams and cheerleading squads. Hey, at least the fans at the football games have something good to watch, if the football is mediocre.

Yeah iirc he said it was real awkward. He e-mailed us all the low down first thing. I laughed so hard cause u can tell he was peeing his pants.

I agree with u on Gundy. At first I was weary but he's grown on me. All his NCG talk this yr kind of took him down a peg for me but I understand he needs to say it.

BTW, didn't really think you were actually arguing with me....I said arguing in agreement in more of a positional stance sense. No worries.

As for above, I do agree with you on both Teague and Neal. I can't remember, but wasn't Neal a pretty highly touted RB coming out of high school? I think Graham can make a big improvement with him and the other RBs; especially with a new OL coach.

You're also right about Santos making the choice. He should be the one to do it. I think Collins' mother made an @$$ of herself on national television. Interestingly, I read somewhere else today that Collins is visiting LSU this weekend....!!

Now....when and if my daughter gets to the point of making a choice between schools.... I will certainly be pushing her to go somewhere other than UK!! LOL!!

I try to get her to watch the UT games with me so that she can see them to some degree, but she is born and raised in Kentucky. I don't know that I can get it out of her. I would love for her to go to UT, but in the end I just don't want her to go to UK!!

I'm certain my opinion on that would change too if my daughter was on the team!! I won't even be able to watch them from that perspective....gets worse by the minute.....
