Athens is about 60miles closer than Knoxville.

athens, via I-85 is 3 hrs 26 min 190 miles
knoxville, via I-40 is 4hrs 7 min 235 miles

i never would have guessed that UGA was 40 miles closer but i guess this means auburn is out

Let's put it this way...Polian was one of the most highly regarded GM's in the profession before the season. But him simply not drafting or acquiring via free agency/trade, a worthy backup, by his own admission, was what cost him his job.

Speculating that Peyton wouldn't really make that much of a difference is ridiculous. Can't argue with the past 10 or so years that dictate otherwise.

The same goes for Cam Newton. If he comes back for his senior season, Auburn is very likely duking it out with LSU and Bamer for the West. You just cannot logically make a case that disregards the immense impact a marquee QB has on a team.

Our problem was that there was just too much of a dropoff in talent/experience behind both Bray and Hunter. That's why such a promising season took a complete 180 degree turn for the worse when those two were taken out of the equation.

CP thread so this is the last I'll say about it, but anyone who watched the Colts got 10-6 and lose to the Jets in the playoffs in 2010 could see that team was in decline. Also had losses to mediocre Texans and Jags teams, and an ugly home loss to the Chargers. The secondary, running game, and Oline was a mess, and this season they lost guys like Bullitt and Brackett who masked some of their defensive deficiencies.

I don't care how respected Bill Polian is, he deserved to lose his job. This wasn't about finding a serviceable back-up for Manning - it was about years of ineptitude in the draft. I could well have missed some guys, but feel free to skim the drafts from 2006 - 2010. Not one single impact player. Decent RB in Addai. Potential MLB in Angerer. Couple secondary options at WR with Garcon and Collie. That's pretty much it in 5 years. Whiffs everywhere else.

This year's team was a BAD 2-14. Peyton is amazing and could probably have carried them to 3-5 more wins - quite an accomplishment. But that's it. I doubt they make the playoffs even with Peyton.

Really think it's coming down to UGA/UT. I hope Justin Hunter picks up the phone and sells Patterson, they seem to be close, we really need his help. Hinshaw earns his paycheck plus a raise if he brings in CP.

Why's that? I mean if a team like UGA could sneak into the SECCG only to be exposed as a fraud, why not the Vols?

Very simple answer. You lost to a UK team that was playing a WR at the QB position. Sorry to tell you but it seems you had a lot more issues than just injuries at key positions.

Hey smart guy... you all struggled to beat a UT team whose offense was effectively one QB and one WR. Poole went out with a hamstring. IIRC, that was the game Brewer got hurt. UT started two Fr at OLB and 3 first year players in the secondary.

Yeah. UT didn't show up for the UK game and by then there wasn't alot of motivation for some of the players to extend the season. Post-season surgeries demonstrate that several of UT's starters were playing with injuries already. It was a tough, grueling, disappointing season. Vol fans hope that it was the rock bottom of the roster mess created by Fulmer and Kiffin.

Your team is loaded with talented guys... and you just aren't as good as you should be. FWIW, UGA only beat UK by 9 in a game closer than the score where you CLEARLY played down to your competition in spite of having alot on the line.

Gabe Wright might be one of the biggest losers in the history of CFB recruiting.

No...he isn't very popular around here b/c of his NSD antics..I watched his announcement b/c I was following NSD coverage on ESPNU and the computer, as I do every year..I was throwing pillows at the TV!!

Anyway, I don't see Patterson being a drama queen and pulling something this b/c his recruitment has been fairly quiet.

I would be pissed if I was Nick Fairley too. That was just uncalled for.
