Let's put it this way...Polian was one of the most highly regarded GM's in the profession before the season. But him simply not drafting or acquiring via free agency/trade, a worthy backup, by his own admission, was what cost him his job.
Speculating that Peyton wouldn't really make that much of a difference is ridiculous. Can't argue with the past 10 or so years that dictate otherwise.
The same goes for Cam Newton. If he comes back for his senior season, Auburn is very likely duking it out with LSU and Bamer for the West. You just cannot logically make a case that disregards the immense impact a marquee QB has on a team.
Our problem was that there was just too much of a dropoff in talent/experience behind both Bray and Hunter. That's why such a promising season took a complete 180 degree turn for the worse when those two were taken out of the equation.
