'12 TX LB Dalton Santos (Texas Commit)

Dalton needs to come to Tn just like we need him. He's flip-flopped from OK State to Tn. Since committing, each interview he gives sounds like someone totally different. He just needs to grow up.
Now, Danny Obrien has been the opposite. He's made a choice and he's sticking by it. He's been a leader and called others to offer support.
The two of them are supposed to room together and be hunting partners. Santos needs to stick to that decision and learn from Danny.

and let me guess, you're saying this as someone that has Dalton's best interests at heart and not as a biased UT fan, right?

Exactly. People didn't want Wilcox because all he coached was a team that was successful in the WAC. In essence, what did he really prove here? Not a whole lot. Now they're b****ing because he's gone. People couldn't stand Hiestand at points in the season because our running game sucked. People didn't even know who Sirmon was until he started beasting it on the recruiting trail. People b****ed about Russell because, once again, our ST weren't any good.

Just dumb.

On Wilcox, sure there were detractors--you're gonna get that regardless--but I think he was well received for the most part.

Why? Because he had proven his competence against some pretty good competition.

Can't really say that about the current list of candidates.

It's come down to this. Wilcox "sucked" because he had to win with freshmen and sophs. I don't know the story on Hiestand, but when Sirmon was promoted all I heard was wailing because we hired a no name GA. Next year the freshmen and sophs will be sophs and jrs with talent and game experience. We have another good class coming in, so 2013 will be even better. New coaches will be hired and I believe most of the recruiting class will hold together. If they don't, we will get others before NSD. There's a lot of irrelevant noise around the program now, but things are improving whether most can see it or not.

Nice to see some sanity on VN.:good!:

Santos is solid. He is respectable young man that doesn't shy away from adversity. He will be one we are talking about in 10 years.

Unfortunately, all the "sky is falling" people are making thread after threadl...they need some summer's dawn.

Hope this is right....Come on Dalton stick with your commitment and it will all work out. VolNation needs patience to see how it will work out, also. A month from now everyone will be excited about all the new hires, the great recruiting class, and we will be looking forward to a great year in 2012.

Of course, I mean, why would a biased UT fan be on a UT chat board?

Your post was highly delusional. The kid owes UT nothing at this point. If coaches have the right to cut ties with players then players have the right to cut ties with coaches. It's business right? I wish Dalton tons of success whether it here or somewhere else. Preferably here.

Hubbs posted that Austin Price talked to Santos and that they are not coming this weekend. They said that the drive was too long to make without having the defensive hires completed. Fortenberry said that there would be more in the War Room tonight about Santos....

Well hopefully he can visit after we get a hire in

Anyone willing to be objective will admit our chances of keeping him are pretty low. Even when you get a new DC in place, they won't be able to make it in before NSD to experience the campus as a family. Huge loss, if he indeed decommits.

I don't like this.... but I can't say that I blame the young man

I'm not willing to be objective yet...I think if Dooley and Hart round out the new staff with well thought out candidates and show that they are truly building for the future instead of making rash hires to impress people on the outside, we have as good a chance as ever to convince Santos and his family that he made the right decision.

I really hope people don't freak out over nothing. They live far away, and it makes no sense for them to come on an UOV, spend their money, if they can't get to know Dalton's DC and position coach.

I understand that, but you can't just ignore how big of a deal it is to get a kid on campus. Period. I don't know if his mom or dad have ever even been on campus? Getting a visit on a weekend like this is beyond huge. And considering he will be rolling into A&M a week before NSD, that makes this even tougher.

It may not have been my greatest post ever, but I never once said he owed UT anything. It's a free country, he can go wherever he wants.
I've followed his recruitment, and he's said some fairly immature things, and I was just speculating that rooming with a guy like Danny Obrien that has handled the process very well, might do him some good.
Just stating opinion and highly speculative at that, not meant to be a post based on fact.

It is a problem b/c he has OV's scheduled for Arkansas and Ohio State on his calendar. He doesn't have another free weekend to come to visit. Unless he cancels elsewhere he won't ever be back in Knoxville before NSD...

No information has indicated that he WON'T visit UT once the hires are in place. That's what I'll go off of. He's already had his OV. I believe his parents were with him.
