Are you seriously bragging on your coach for beating Robert Morris, Charlotte and a .500 UT team? Optimism. That must be a trait only passed on to progeny in the western side of this state. :hi:

Robert Morris would roll UT (11-4, RPI of 71), but that's beside the point...the point is, now that Memphis is playing defense, Memphis is winning games.

Definitely not something I would be gloating about after being a Top 10 pre-season pick. Even after tonights game, you can't feel too good about your team or you are not facing the fact that Patner can't reel these guys in.

I'm not gloating, I'm just correcting misinformation.

Memphis has won 3 straight games...in those game:

Robert Morris scored 47 points and shot 23%
Charlotte scored 58 points and shot 25%
Tennessee scored 51 points and shot 36%

Josh has gotten the players to buy into team defense...

Whoa, what a brutal 3 game stretch.

Can you name a quality opponent they've beaten?
Memphis defense is hack and bump street ball.
When games are officiated closely most of their studs are in foul trouble or out of the game mid way thru the second half.
That will continue and the Memphis' hopes of a NC are a pipe dream.

Memphis is stockpiled with players that UT offered and did not get.
UT is not as bad off talent wise as many want to make out, but the bottom line is that every player on UT's squad was a plan B, for nearly all of the Memphis roster.

Memphis played suffocating defense, particularly on point. While Cuonzo has Golden playing 3 feet off his man most the time. Never getting any ball pressure. Is this the great D we were sold on? Hardly. CCM is not a good defensive coach.

Once again, Coach Martin hasn't gotten half way through the schedule and there are those who want him out. Wow. His system will work once he has the right players in it. Last night they played a team far superior athletically than they are. UT's back court of Golden, Tatum, McBee don't even come close to Jackson, Crawford and the Barton boys. At least Golden came out ready to play. I won't mention the Dunkfest that took place. If Pearl had coached this game last night the same outcome would have occurred. It's called rebuilding, because Pearl left nothing to work with much.

Coach Martin tried to press, but when you have guards like Joe Jackson, Antonio Barton and Chris Crawford that can break a press with their dribble drive and pass you're left with a Dunkfest of alley oops. UT doesn't have good guards this year with the exception of Golden. Face it Memphis kicked in another gear of speed and defensive pressure that UT was not able to match.

We're going to start only giving coaches 1 game to prove themselves. Then we fire them.

Everyone knows TN has to bring it every game just to finish .500.
You were stating how much you've improved since you started playing defense. I just pointed out that nothing has changed.
Hope ur guys go on a tear tho.

Passive agressive way of saying that the refs wouldn't call enough fouls on us last night?

C'mon man.

I would just like to say, the OP thought Phil Fulmer would run Nick Saban out of Alabama. He's not the best judge of coaches.

Please reference where I ever said Fulmer would run Saban out. It's a challenge to you.

Keep on carrying Coach Martin's jock. We underperform, have no semblance of an offense, our defense is pathetic, and we just got embarrassed by our cross-state rivals.

Memphis players were literally laughing in the faces of UT players. A fight about breaks out and Pastner is out in the middle of it with his guys. Our coach is standing on the sidelines looking confused.

Pastner is a terrible coach, but at least he's active during the game. He calls over players, shouts instructions, he actually tries to coach. Our coach strolls around the bench looking for a towel to wipe his hands with the whole game.

I'm just calling it like it was last night leaving the Forum. This team stinks. You and everyone else can say "first year", "no talent", and such, but the bottom line is this team stinks and Martin doesn't appear to be too worried about it. In fact, at critical points of games he apparently tries to sabotage the team with ridiculous substitutions.

So keep on bashing people for telling the truth. If Martin keeps putting a product on the floor like he did last night, he should be fired. We're halfway into the season and the schedule only gets tougher. Good luck Coach, you need it.

We lose to a far superior team in Memphis and you want him gone. Stupid thread. With the talent we have on this team Cuonzo has done a very good job

Far superior? They had a similar record, and beat us by a point in double overtime earlier in this season. They may be a little better, but they're not "far superior"

Talent-wise they are far superior. Their best is superior to our best. It's not hard to understand.

And you can hop off your knees now, Bruce is gone. Sorry bud.

What a complete joke of a post.

So because he's not animated, he's not doing his job?

Someone tell Les Miles he's a bad coach.

This team stinks. You know why? Because the roster isn't good. Go ahead and pull out the (we have four stars) and you tell me that Cam Tatum, Kenny Hall, and Renaldo Woolridge deserves those four stars. Because they weren't doing anything last year either.

Coach Martin is doing what he can. To assume he's not trying is garbage. Just because he doesn't act like a raging lunatic doesn't mean he doesn't care. God, so stupid.

Actually what I said, probably in another post, was that I like when officials let the kids play.
If you don't think there more more than 6 fouls in the first half on both sides , I've got an I doctor I'll recommend.
I don't think the refs had any intention of favoring either team, but the loose calling favored the Tigers.
And they don't and won't win against good teams that can match their physicality.
Tigers would have won this game no matter how they called it.
Too much talent for our guys to handle.

The effort has been there all year. They just aren't very good.

What the hell have you been watching? If they stood around any more they'd fall asleep. This team has no hustle and is in terrible shape. Six of our 51 points came beacuse Maymon couldn't get back down the court to play defense so he was just standing under the Memphis basket while we played defense.

But you guys keep calling me stupid. I'm the one holding our coach accoutable for losing to Austin Peay, Col of Charleston, and getting run out of the gym against Memphis. You keep making excuses for him. Good job.

I have been watching a team that is outmatched against any decent team we play, but the effort has been there. They try, they just aren't good. It's like the football team in 2010. They try, they just suck.

Oh, last year, your boy Bruce last to CoC at home by double digits. Don't pull that crap. CoC is actually a decent team and during the broadcast the analyst said they are the favorite for the SoCon. And Memphis is a better team than us, and we lost at their place? It was within 10 for most of the game, and they pulled away late.

I get it. Your mad because we aren't going to win 20 games. Oh well. It's a rebuilding year. If we are doing the same things as next year, then it might be time to reevaluate things for the basketball program. Right now, I suggest you sit back and relax, and realize Martin is doing the best he can with the ****ty roster he was left with.

Our defense sucked so bad Tarik Black had a career night. How many times did we try to go inside and post him up on offense? That guy is a fouling machine and everyone but Martins knows it.

I agree with you that Coach Martin is doing what he can. I'm just pointing out that what he can do is not getting the job done. You even say we have talent that is underperforming. Four stars that suck and for some reason you see no accountability on the coach for that.
