Two handed, off a dead stop, jumping off two feet. Call me when someone in the women's game dunks a rebound. There's a simple reason ESPN shows poker and Madden Nation instead of women's basketball. Outside of Knoxville, Storrs, and about 5 other places, nobody cares.
Hat, you could be right. You probably are right.
But...they don't care that much about football (anymore) in Syracuse, and for good reason. They suck. Pick the sport, the school, and the state, and those mismatches are plastered all over the map.
Here in Knoxville, and in (realistically) 20 or 30 other I-A schools, women's BB is big news, and big time. I'll concede that the WNBA is the pro equivalent of PBA bowling (they both get about the same amount of air time on ESPN XXVII). Then again, not much happening in pro water polo, but most colleges have a team.
No, it doesn't compare favorably with the high-speed, high-altitude pace of the men's game, and it probably never will. But...if you want to see basketball played as a team game, you really oughta tune in and see a ladies game.
Basketball ain't all about dunking, the same way football ain't all about passing. Hawaii is proof of that. Makes for flashy numbers and good ESPN highlights, but that's about it.
In the end, UT has a fantastic women's BB program, and I'm a UT fan, so I'm a women's BB fan.
To each his (or her) own.
Go Vols.
