Fulmer, Pearl, or Summit?

Then why do they show the women's tournament games on ESPN and ESPN2? Like I said, ratings are steadily rising.. I'll try and post the numbers a little later for you since you seem to be so stubborn to face the facts..:birgits_giggle:
Ooh, they show the most important games of the season for the sport. They do the same for college baseball, lacrosse, curling, field hockey, powerboat racing, drag racing, and tractor pulls. While you're pulling up numbers, pull up the ratings for the Duke-Tennessee women's game. Then, compare that to the ratings for Monday Night Raw on USA the same night. That will tell you all you need to know about the "appeal" of women's basketball.

Two handed, off a dead stop, jumping off two feet. Call me when someone in the women's game dunks a rebound. There's a simple reason ESPN shows poker and Madden Nation instead of women's basketball. Outside of Knoxville, Storrs, and about 5 other places, nobody cares.

Hat, you could be right. You probably are right.

But...they don't care that much about football (anymore) in Syracuse, and for good reason. They suck. Pick the sport, the school, and the state, and those mismatches are plastered all over the map.

Here in Knoxville, and in (realistically) 20 or 30 other I-A schools, women's BB is big news, and big time. I'll concede that the WNBA is the pro equivalent of PBA bowling (they both get about the same amount of air time on ESPN XXVII). Then again, not much happening in pro water polo, but most colleges have a team.

No, it doesn't compare favorably with the high-speed, high-altitude pace of the men's game, and it probably never will. But...if you want to see basketball played as a team game, you really oughta tune in and see a ladies game.

Basketball ain't all about dunking, the same way football ain't all about passing. Hawaii is proof of that. Makes for flashy numbers and good ESPN highlights, but that's about it.

In the end, UT has a fantastic women's BB program, and I'm a UT fan, so I'm a women's BB fan.

To each his (or her) own.

Go Vols.

1. There are not twenty schools where women's basketball is "big time."
2. Why would I watch the team game played poorly by women when I can watch Air Force, Georgetown, or West Virginia play it well?

Again, you probably are right.

And again, to each his (or her) own.

I would infer, based on your strong stance, then, that you would rather watch Fulmer lose than Summitt win.

Is your question would I rather watch football than women's basketball? If so, the answer in all circumstances is yes. Among the other things I would watch before women's basketball: Curling, the edited version of Showgirls, reruns of Who's The Boss, infomercials selling home colonoscopy kits, paint drying, and ice melting.

I don't care if Summit wins, loses, or the program folds.

It's obvious you have a very slanted view of the women's game, No matter what's displayed to you it seems you could care less.. I bet you have some real interesting views on politics as well.. But that's for another debate.:boredom:

Okay, you're not a fan of women's college BB.

And you're funny.

I can live with both of those.

Back to the the question, I don't care if Summit wins the national title every year and cures cancer in the process. I want a good coach where I care, and that is mens basketball and football.

If the UT fan base by some crazy reason had a choice like this, or Hamilton had to make a decision where he kept one of the three, and he kept Summit, I may stop watching college sports forever, become an Ohio Bobcats fan. I can't decide which is worse.

The Bobcats looked awful blowing that big lead at New Mexico State Saturday night.

I'm a true vol fan. Bleed Orange. Watch the Lady Vols. Summit is great, and probably the best woman's coach out there, but really how much competition does she really have? In the 90's she really only competed with about 5 teams for a National title and really only Conn. was her true competition. It is getting a little tougher, but really she is only competing against about 10 teams now. Fill out a 65 men's team bracket and you will be done after the first round. You can pretty much pick the final 4 every year in the woman's. She's competing with about 10 teams now and hasn't won a title in about 10 years.

I'll begin by saying that I am a die-hard UT football fan, above all else. And then I'll add this.....

Assuming that there are (out of deference to hatvol) maybe 10 women's BB programs that are perennial national championship contenders.

There are 6 teams in each half of the SEC. 12 total.

Who has done better with their odds over the past ten years? UT Women's basketball at the national level, or UT football at the conference level?

I don't use much electricity watching women's college BB. I only watch when UT is on, and that ain't much, as hatvol pointed out. It's all about ratings, and most guys (who make up the majority of college sports fans) would truly rather watch Harvard-Yale on the gridiron than almost any women's BB game. Simple fact.

But...when it comes down to who has done more for their respective programs, Pat is prime time, and Phil is trying to regain the (pun intended) summit.

Go Vols.

I would keep Summit over Phil, because I do want Phil to leave, but definitely not Summit over Pearl.

Herein lies the beauty of these forums. Spirited debate, and no personal attacks. As the creator intended.

I've read enough of hatvol's posts to know that I respect both his opinion and his logic. We just disagree, which ain't a bad thing.

One final point, and then I really have to go.

Swap the tenure and records of Bruce and Pat. Make it men's BB, with Pat's numbers. Now how does he (she) compare?

That's my point.

And I'd still pick Pat. That's not an insult to Phil, just recognition of Pat for all that she's done for UT, and her chosen sport.

I am, in the end, a Vol fan. And a huge Pat fan. Give the lady her due.

Go Vols.

I would much rather not see Men's bball fall off the map than women's bball. And if the University cares, UT will remain top 10 in woman's bball because we would be one of 10 schools that care.

The spelling and punctuation errors were pointed out to help educate you. The sheer silliness of the rest of your post wasn't worth commenting on at any length.
