I've never been to Neyland but in "01 in Bryant Denny I sat next to a Tennessee fan that smelled just like cheese Krystals.

I've been fumin' over this since the Cal game and then after goin' to the LSU game it irritated me even more. I've been able to fight off sayin' anything thus far but I guess now's the time. WTF I am a respectful and passionate UT fan. I have to say that my experiences this year at our beloved stadium was great on the field and sh!tty in the stands. Almost to the point that I've kicked around the idea of only going to away games. Scenario Cal game: I am the fan that doesn't drink too much, wears a tie, and tries to watch out and consider the folks around me. 5 minutes into the 1st 1/4, seated in the season tic/alum section, I get grief for standing up. That continued throughout the entire game. I paid alot of money and drove a long way to see that game and thought maybe, just maybe that the team would appreciate some enthusiasm. Not only was I told to sit down I was questioned as to where I got my tickets. I appologized to a fellow fan and extended my hand only to have him pull away and say no way( at that point I responded in a not so favorable manor). FF: LSU game not as sweet seats. Tryin to get to my seat for the first time of the day, invited by the first person in the row to find my seat and stay in it. WTF it's a football game w/ 107,000+ get over yourself. Just before half time decided to approach my row from other side so not to irritate the aformentioned "fan". Got some fella in his mid 50's sayin': "If you're goin' go now, get outta my way" I replied "thanks for the patience" to which he replied " I ain't got none". It got ugly from there. I told him "This is Neyland stadium, if you hate being around people feel free to watch the game from your La-Z-Boy" etc. I got good laughs from other folks that he had offed up to that point but that did not lessen the effects of his unwarranted attack. It nearly ruined my day and LSU took care of the rest. Something needs to change in Knoxville and it starts with the fans. I'm sorry to be so long winded but there wasn't really a shorter way to put it. We're all Vols come on act right.

SO YOUR THE :rtfm: !!

at the outback bowl i really noticed that our fans weren't really energetic. we stood for a couple of third downs and stuff, but the penn state fans were just standing up and loud the whole game. it was only my 3rd game seeing tennessee play so i was kinda dissapointed. ive only been to neyland once when i was young so i dont remember any jerks or anything. i went to the ut game in fayetteville this year and took crap all day from arkansas fans, but it was all in good fun. The biggest jerk i really met was a ut fan who yelled at my friend for standing up. the guy asked my friend if he minded sitting down so my friend did. then the guy said he was tired of looking at my buddy's a$$ all day or something to that extent. so then my buddy decided he would stand the rest of the game. that was about as bad as it got. some arkansas fan was jokin around with me after the game but i was pissed about the loss so he kinda got the worst of it.

Penn State is currently doing really well in comparison to their recent years. That has the fans excited. UT has slid down to the point where a 9 win season is much better than expected. I can't fault our fans too much for being a little laconic when we roll into the Outback Bowl after barely beating UK, then only manage to find the endzone once.

I think you will find these types of fans at every stadium. The old folks though who dont want to yell and cheer and pay their tons of money should watch in the skyboxes. My father is 67, has a bad back problem, and also has Rhematoid Arthritis. He coached football for over 40 years and LOVES to go to the games. He goes to the game, yells, gets up, and high-fives everyone (although not as much in the fourth quarter when he starts hurting). If he can do it, all the other fat cats can.

There is a time to stand and a time to sit. A time to yell, chant, cheer, and a time to talk with everyone around you. (hint: watch the guy in the red hat for a queue)

Everyone in my section knows when to do each and we have a great time.

:whistling: A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time to love, a time to hate
A time for peace, I swear its not too late:whistling:

i've heard stories like this, but never seen it. when i had my season tix, the people around me were great and we had a blast. last year for the florida and Cal games it was the same. the only time i ever had a problem was in lexington when a UK fan spilled whiskey on me, but what can you expect it is uk.

with Neyland holding 107,000 the people there are not half as crazy or loud as it is in death valley (lsu) or the swamp...we got too many old azz pricks that show no enthuaism

I agree all the way around. I have only had "issues" when sitting on the west side of the stadium, where more of the elder fans seem to be.

I have been to the Swamp twice (both Vol wins) and to "Death Valley" twice (Ole Miss and Arkansas) and your statement is correct. They didn't seem to have too many "sit on their hands" fans and were the loudest two stadiums I think I have been in.

I'll take a geezer who sits there and watches the game over some Brentwoodite who is there to be seen. Neyland is too much of a socialite gathering on the west side. I get access to a pair of season tickets on the west side from time-to-time from a friend who does contracted work for UT. There is no cheering over there. It's like a frat party.

I say clear out the lower lever of the west side and let students sit there.....on a more realistic wish, It would be neat to see (more importantly hear) the studen section all along the sidelines of the east side...currently they sit from around the 50yd line to the SW corner. That would really make the stadium louder.

I don't think your intention was to belittle fraternities, but when I was at UT, the fraternities were some of the most vocal and energetic fans at the game.

No, not at all. I'm speaking of season ticket holders on the (wealthy) west side of the stadium.
