does beating the teams that cincinnati has beaten honestly make them a "decent team"

They're considered top 25 over halfway through the season so yeah, I think "decent" fits. Again, getting carried away with trying to hang laurels on Cincy was never my take. They don't suck and with Bray and Hunter healthy UT is (well, was) simply a different team on offense.

Name the schools from bcs leagues in the top 25 that cincy could beat.

LSU 9-0
Bama 8-1
Arkansas 8-1
Cinncy 7-1
UGA - 7-2
USCe - 7-2
Florida 5-4

You know it is going to be a tough season when the Gators at the swamp is your 7th toughest game.

Dude, you are absolutely whiffing on my point. Maybe others are actually worrying about where Cincy deserves to be in some numerical poll or what the point spread should be with them vs this team or that team. Find one of those guys and knock yourself senseless or write a harsh letter to the actual pollsters. That they are ranked in the top 25 this far into the season is entirely adequate to vet the only point I was trying to make; we really, really miss Bray and Hunter on this offense.

He is saying that the Cincinnati Game showed the potential that this team had with Bray and Hunter. (You're welcome for the translation).

It wasn't a true signature because it wasn't considered a big win at the time, but looking back it does show the potential this team had at the beginning of the year. It can show what could have been and show our fans that with everyone healthy this team will have a lot of potential.

By far the best win in Dooley's Tennessee career. I have a feeling it won't even be in the top three this time next year though.

Can't say I agree with your philosophy on "signature wins" because the body of work has to come into play in assessing the quality of a win over a certain team. Hope you're right about next season.

You mean a team that doesn't belong there? Cincinnati would not be even close to 7-1 if they had our schedule. They would have only won 2 games maybe. They are far from being one of the "25 best teams" in the country. Not much to brag about in my opinion.

Name 25 better teams that should be ranked.

I have never heard so much crying in all of my life, Cincinnati was a win and we were their only loss to date, They are ranked 25 in the nation it is what it is, am I happy about not winning no, but when you look at the over all picture we do have the second hardest schedule in the nation with all of our last 4 games and the one upcoming against teams that are ranked in the top 10.

It's been debated a ridiculous amount on here...I think looking back if they go 11-1 it would be a great win. But for a game to truely be a signature win I feel like it needs to be perceived that way at the time...I dunno maybe that is dumb though.

Does this mean we should defect to the Big East?

Probably gonna take a lot of flak for this post but it is the truth. I'm all for joining the Big east! I would much rather have winning seasons plus a bowl bid/bowl win than sitting home during the holidays. I'm tired of all these losing seasons! Cincy is our only BIG win the past three years. We are currently 0-5 in the SEC this year!! Last year 3-5!! The previous year 4-4!! We need to come to terms that we are no longer competitive in the SEC anymore. Last year we lost in a bowl game to a North Carolina team that had half their team missing!! The year before that, we got the crap beat out of us by Virginia Tech in a bowl game (and we even had all-world Eric Berry on our team)!! Sure we can play a tough schedule but that doesn't mean squat if we can't win them! Yes the SEC is a tough conference but that doesn't make us tough. Heck, people try to justify our losing with the excuse of "we play in the toughest conference!" I would rather WIN in a mediocre conference than keep losing in a good conference!

This is one of the worst posts I've ever seen on VolNation.

You don't get it, do you? Every team has down years. You don't tuck it in and run when you're losing. You continue to play in the SEC and tough it out and come back.

If you'd rather win in a lesser conference, go follow a different team. Good luck recruiting the same high level talent after kids see you *****ed out to a crappy conference after such a storied history.

Sagarin's predictor has Cincinnati at #27, with the 95th ranked strength of schedule in the country.

Someone mentioned Cincinnati vs. Florida (#33) - by his rankings Cincinnati would be a 1.5 point favorite on a neutral field.

Cincinnati would not be favored over any of the other teams we've lost to this year.

You deserve more than flack for this. You deserve to only be allowed to watch Thursday night college football for the rest of your life, have to wear lace underwear and fuzzy bedroom slippers everywhere you go, and be barred from every college stadium and sports bar this side of the Mississippi.

You went full 'tard on that one.

Vol4Live? What does that mean anyway?

It's not a signature win, no matter how well they finish, for the reasons you list. But if they finish 11-1, or even 9-3, we can still look back and see a positive and/or a reason for hope.

I really would like for some success sometime soon on the hill. I've ate a lot of humble pie.

I can't believe you're so eager to troll Vol fans that you actually spent time looking up Cincinnati's schedule (and Louisville's, and South Florida's) in order to refute a point nobody's trying to make.

Lets be honest. We expected to dominate Cincinnati. This cannot be proclaimed as a signature win. We had opportunities to claim that signature win against Florida, Alabama, and lsu this year. Call me old school - but I don't think Georgia, south Carolina, or Arkansas can qualify as a signature as I full expect to stomp them annually
