no offense, but often when a candidate for a position announces that, its because they have been told they are no longger being considered.

i'm just saying if he was offered he would have been gone.
Why would he of been gone? Being named Howards HC would have been a BIG step down for him. Wouldn't he have a better chance at getting to where he wants to be from staying a UT no matter what? I believe so.

a step down? i dont see it. It would have conservatively doubled his salary, probably close to trippling it.

I think this is a good move for Trooper. He is a great Recruiter and everyone seems to believe Fulmer is gone soon. Cutcliffe is getting old. Chavis I don't think will ever be a head coach.

So he could easily have the inside scoop for becoming a head coach at UT later on in the future. If not somewhere else.

Hopefully UT picks up Gruden in the future though.

IMO Gruden is a pipe dream. If he got fired tomorrow, he'd have another NFL head coaching job within 2 weeks.

Is he still married to that cheerleader from Knoxville? Being a married person myself, I know that when moma talks.....dad listens:crossfingers:

why would you want Gruden to come here and coach?
he's won one Super Bowl and he did it with Tony Dungy's talent. What has TB done since then? What would make him a better HC than Fulmer?

How many people said the same thing about Saban

True, and the way Alabama upped the ante, we may see a few NFL guys take a shot in college . . . but Saban was proven on the college level and never really saw success in Miami. Gruden on the other hand has limited college experience and has a Super Bowl ring and a successful run under Al Davis.
