Why would he of been gone? Being named Howards HC would have been a BIG step down for him. Wouldn't he have a better chance at getting to where he wants to be from staying a UT no matter what? I believe so.

I think this is a good move for Trooper. He is a great Recruiter and everyone seems to believe Fulmer is gone soon. Cutcliffe is getting old. Chavis I don't think will ever be a head coach.

So he could easily have the inside scoop for becoming a head coach at UT later on in the future. If not somewhere else.

Hopefully UT picks up Gruden in the future though.

True, and the way Alabama upped the ante, we may see a few NFL guys take a shot in college . . . but Saban was proven on the college level and never really saw success in Miami. Gruden on the other hand has limited college experience and has a Super Bowl ring and a successful run under Al Davis.
