Morley Gone??

Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack:

"Whoaaaa, look at this hat, they should give away a free bowl a soup with this"

looks at Judge Snells

"Ohhh, but it looks good on you"

going to realize that you are suppose to study and go to class when you are in college? Whether you are an athlete or just a regular student, you can't expect to be led around by the hand 24 hours a day. Put the responsibility where it belongs and stop blaming a head or whomever.

Yes it starts at the top. You are either going to have a class program with standards or you are going to be slimy and always looking over your shoulder to see if the NCAA is there.

His lack of discipline off the field may explain why he didn't fulfill his potential on the field. It takes guts as a HC to boot a starter rather than covering up as so many do.

Morley had the same opportunities as every other Vol player and far more than the regular student who doesn't have access to the best tutors money can buy.

I hate this happened. He may be a good kid that just ran through a tough time but he's responsible.

You can't blame this on fulmer. The kid shouldn't have even been in college to begin with. Fulmer can't take this kid's tests for him.
Who recruited Morley to UT? If he never should have been in college, why did we recruit him?

You just contradicted yourself. Does it start at the top? Or is it Morley's responsibility? You can't have it both ways.

Look, I'm no fulmerite, but you can't blame fulmer for this. Fulmer can't take his tests for him. And as a former UT student, I can tell you that the football students are taking the easiest classes offered on campus.

That said, there are two possible reasons that a UT football player fails to make his grades:
1) He put forth absolutely no effort, or
2) He simply can't read

This situation is unfortunate, but the blame does not lie with the coaching staff.

which is it?

Are you kidding? There are alot of kids that wouldn't go to college under any other circumstances that get athletic scholarships, work hard, and make it.

I don't remember what Morley's academics were like coming in. However I do know that even bright kids can struggle in college especially if they don't take advantage of the help available to them.

I am all about the whole personal responsibility thing, but if CPF really cared about the kid, he would have benched him for the semester while he got his grades up.

Are you telling me that CPF had no idea Morely was failing? That is ridiculous and we both know it. Given those facts it makes it seam like CPF was just hoping to squeeze one more semester of eligibility out of him so he would have him during football season. In other words he was a willing accomplish to failure.

you never know who is or who is not going to pan out recruiting wise...academically or physically.

that's the problem. you generally don't find out til it's too late.

for all of CPF's faults, he's not a babysitter. He gave the kid an opportunity, and it didn't work out. it's not the first time, it won't be the last and it happens everywhere.

one question, if he was failing, would he not have been academically eligible for the bowl game?

He did what he needed for the Bowl. He was having problems before but was told to get is grade up to be eligible for the next semester...Well, its time for the next semester and the grades didnt come up.
