From Wilbon's column today about Saban

So would the negavols prefer we play western ky, the citadel, arkansas st, and southwest akron st as our non-conf shedule? I love playing a tough non-conf schedule but I think it comes with a price. I'll give the boys at troy props for their schedule, but most of the other "top" programs schedule plenty of scrimmages.

Of course the negavols would blame phil for playing patsies then...
What the hell are you talking about? This year we played an overrated Cal team, plus Air Force, Marshall, and Tiger High. Next year we have Southern Miss, Northern Illinois, and UCF.

Again, how would changing the nonconference schedule result in SEC titles? The people who should want a soft nonconference schedule are the Fulmerites mindlessly yammering on about winning percentages. That way, Haystacks would only have to worry about the SEC causing the freefall in his percentages.
I can see a signifigant swing in the mood of the VNation as a whole, and the way they preceive CPF. I know I have changed the way I think about his job. People should just not defend someone without giving real thoght to all the facts. Its kinda like religion, you can believe but you still have to throw out certain ideas because they are outdated or ingnorant.

Hmmm, Cal was overrated? Ask Tx A&M fans how overrated they were.

We lost a big chunck of our defense playing a tough to defend AF team.

And you're making my point about our schedule by listing our nonconf games next year - even leaving Cal off the list. You should educate yourself about SoMiss, NIll, and UCF. All better programs than most schedule nonconf.

Ask Arizona how good Cal was. If, as is obvious, you have no substantive defense of Haystacks, don't come on here with these ridiculous assertions. It only makes your side of a bad debate look even worse.

I agreed with CPF that having AF on the schedule was a mistake. It came true that we lost two huge playmakers on D. If we were playing directional school in that slot, Harrell and Johnson wouldn't have been on the field to get injured.

Just pointing out that nonconf games can have a huge impact on winning the SEC.

Chuck Webb got injured against Pacific. I guess Majors should have had William Blount High School on the schedule instead.

What's ridiculous about asserting that Cal was not overrated. They had a good team that lost three road games the whole season. Sheesh, cheer up a little and quit looking at everything UT through your anti-fulmer goggles.

Obviously not well enough to put a decent product on the field.

I bet hatvol96 wasn't even totally pleased the year Tennessee won the national championship. Not only is his glass always half empty, but it's inevitable that sooner or later it's going to crack into pieces.

They are no world beaters, but all 3 of those schools have played BCS schools exceptionally well at times in the past 5 years.
I agree. I'm just pointing out to these people who like to act like our NC schedule is some kind of murders row, that it's nothing to lose any sleep over.

I said last spring Cal was a fraud. They were annihilated by the only two decent teams they played, plus a loss to a 6-6 Arizona team. They were no more a top 10 team than Troy State. Quit trying to fluff Haystacks.

Now that is averting the argument - kettle calling pot black ehh?
You have no argument. You come here and make some asinine assertion about weakening the nonconference schedule, which nobody has called for. Then, you essentially assert that nobody gets injured against patsies. I was simply exposing the farcical nature of your point.

The NC schedule is definitely not a murderer's row, but it's not the Auburn model either where you play a 1AA team and 2 schools for the blind.

You're the one acting like our NC schedule should actually scare somebody. I agree that they're better than the Louisiana-hyphen schools that everybody else schedules, but they are still there as cupcake games, and I've never gotten into the whole "our cupcakes are better than yours are" argument.

You're right. There are so many positives in the program now, I should simply send Haystacks Fulmer a card expressing how thrilled I am that we are now a perennial participant in second tier bowls, except when we lose to Vanderbilt and go 5-6.

Go Read "The Blind Side" by Michael Lewis, stat.

So because a wealthy wife liked Saban over CPF because he was polished and new what kind of curtains she had makes Saban a better recruiter? Not to mention the fact that living in Memphis and being OleMiss alum makes them dislike anything UT - including CPF.

All that book did was make the Tuohys look bad for prostituting a poor kid they adopted. It was definately not an indictment on CPFs recruiting ability.

Right. Keep the faith young Fulmerite. You won't have to carry water for Haystacks much longer.
