The next few months is going to be a battle for O'Brien. Michigan is a much more attractive destination than it was a few months ago. With all that said, the staff likes where we are.

We'd better not finish second for all the DTs on the board again this year. I have faith that we can recruit everywhere except the defensive line. That still makes me nervous.

this is where youre off.

Michigan started out being able to only take one, it has since come out that they would very oipen to taking two if the two were Pipkens and OBrien

I haven't seen this anywhere except hinted at during a rivals chat with O'Brien. I think he said "They told me they are only taking one but I think they might be open to taking 2"

Has there been more than this?

Same here. I stated way back that we need to land 2 stud DTs and 1 or 2 serviceable ones or Dooley did not get it done.

Maybe oskie_score has a link.

I did read the other thread.

Had Pipkins gone elsewhere, O'Brien would have been a 80/20 lean to Michigan. Now that Pipkins is committed to Michigan, those odds have flipped in Tennessee favor IMO.

Michigan:
  • Hometown team
  • Less Travel
  • Renewed Excitement within the program
  • Could be a part of a stellar class
Tennessee:
  • Was on him early (offered before Mich)
  • Hunting and loves the East TN area
  • Playing Time
  • Game day atmosphere (likes Tennessee better than Michigan in this aspect)

Michigan:no history of good DT's that i know of.

Tennessee: History of putting DT's in the NFL.

People keep using this as a reason kids should pick UT. Kids just do not seem to be worried about what Tennessee has done in the past.

Maybe if Malik has a great year and gets drafted in the 1st couple rounds it will lead to kids seeing they could do it at Tennessee.

Sorry about the double post-edit.

but their new DC has coach Pro Bowlers Haloti Ngata and Trevor Pryce. At UF he coached Marcus Thomas and Ray McDonald who were drafted in the first 4 rounds. G Matt can coach DLinemen.

This means absolutely nothing since our current staff had nothing to do with putting anyone in the NFL.

So he's probably going to UM now? Is that what i'm understanding? Why can't we pull DT's? I don't get it.

Nothing's certain. This one seems to be closely guarded. We'll see how this one plays out after the OV's. He's said that he's not ready to make a decision anytime soon. He wants to take his visits and decide later in his senior season. At least that's what he said in his live Rivals chat the other night. He may have changed his mind. Don't think anyone knows for sure. Think people are a little on edge about DT's though. Can't say that goes without reason though. I think the Pipkins commit weighs heavily on his decision but might not be forcing his hand any time soon.

O'Brien is incredibly important to this class (obviously). He looked great on the video from the Elite Big Man Camp. I need to get down to a few of his games this year.

Haynesworth
Henderson
Darwin Walker
Abreyo Franklin

We can stack up with anyone. Just has been a dry spell recently.
