NO, THIS IS MY LAST. All the public schools in Alabama are getting out at lunch time today I just found out. Celebrate Good Times, Come On!

I'm saying it now - with the young talent Alabama had in 2006, Nick Saban makes them a darkhorse national title contender in 2007. Write it down or refer to this post in December 2007.

i agree arizona. we sure as hell are not going to beat them. fulmer couldn't carry saban's clipboard.

Fulmer might as well resign now because Saban will own him, tough time ahead for Vol fans

[dreaming]Latest news... Hamilton kicks Fulmer to the curb, offers 10 yr, $50 million package to Bill Cowher.....[/dreaming]

Someone should inform Cowherd that Huizenga went to Saban's house this morning and Huizenga wished him well and told him to follow his heart...

Congratulations to Alabama on a good decision with Nick Saban. Ladies and Gentleman, we have another problem on our hands in the SEC........A L A B A M A !!! Something has got to change on the hill or we will keep digressing to a point of no return. I hope we don't wait too long to realize this. Either we change drastically with the current coaching staff or suffer dire consequences from stagnation. Can we change enough with the current coaching staff? That remains to be seen. How long do we give them? Looks like we give them longer than we thought with the contract extension that Hamilton is willing to give Fulmer. :hi:

In other news, Fulmer met with his cardiologist today after his heart skipped several beats this morning.

With the price tag for the next hire now up to at least 3.5Mil, one has to wonder if Fulmer is really less likely to remain after a mediocre season. I'm just saying... the next UT hire just got VERY expensive.

I posted this in the sports forum. God help us.

have those $$$ been confirmed by Alabama? that really suprises me...i know that he was being paid a bundle in Miami, but in general, the financial security is higher in college ball than the NFL (but this is Alabama we're talking about)

Not necessarily. If Tennessee goes after a big whale like Saban, Butch Davis, etc. then the salary will have to be >$3 mil. But if UT gets a mid-major coach (think Tressell at OSU) then mid $2 mil to start is more likely.

Plus would you rather pay $2.1 mil for what we get now or $3 mil for a title contender?

I understand your logic, but with the chance to set a new regime I don't think anything less than the very best out there would suffice for the powers that be.

It's not my cash, so I'd pay whatever. Point taken though...

My guess is the administrators at USC, OSU, Texas, and a few other programs around the country took a look at those contract numbers and collectively fainted.

This is really really bad news... the more I think about things, the more I realize good coaches succeed more often than not. Combine good coach with tradition and comparable or better talent... 'bama will likely own us.

Fulmer shoulda been a good husband and listened to his wife when she told me to retire after the NC in '98 saying, "Is it gonna get any better than this?"...like all us men...he didn't think she knew what she was talking about...maybe we should ask his wife help him coach...maybe something will go right
