Because the info is not allowed to be distributed until it is released by the patient.

Is this poster a health professional or someone sitting in a waiting room though? I don't know the person so I will assume the former I guess.

If you happen to see someone walk into a hospital there is no HIPAA violation so long as you aren't one of the "covered entities"

So...what is HIPAA again?

The Office for Civil Rights enforces the HIPAA Privacy Rule, which protects the privacy of individually identifiable health information; the HIPAA Security Rule, which sets national standards for the security of electronic protected health information; and the confidentiality provisions of the Patient Safety Rule, which protect identifiable information being used to analyze patient safety events and improve patient safety.

Best post in this thread. (Except for the one saying everyone's ok...I hope)

Thanks- although I did write HIPPA rather than HIPAA like a bonehead. Sorry GAVol, lol. I should have remembered as I've had to sign tons of HIPAA forms from college ball, lol.

I just talked to a player that I had a class with last semester and he has heard about it but doesn't know the names. If I hear more, I'll relay the news.

But HIPAA only applies to health care providers and certain insurance carriers. Why does it apply in this case?

It applies to anyone associated with any type of healthcare provider. That includes anyone associated with the UTAD and any other college or pro team.

Or you could be connected and posting too much could expose a leak. Trying to figure out who posters in the know are never ends well for anyone.

Okay. So the poster is associated with the team? Gotcha.

No longer confused.
