I'm not sure how to answer this question, but I'll try. Posters don't get suspended or have posts deleted from adding VFL! to a post. Posters don't get suspended or have posts deleted for contributing to the discussion. Posters may be suspended or have posts deleted for various reasons, including inappropriate material, name calling, going too far of topic, etc., etc. I suppose I need to re-post the basic rules. They have always a fixture in the past and I'm not sure why they are no longer prominently displayed anywhere.
I've looked back through the deleted posts and far more come from trolls and non-regular posters who may not be as familiar with our typical protocol. Looking through recent suspensions and perma-bans, 95% would be considered trolls, spammers, or people who obviously have no intention of contributing positively to the board. It can happen, but rarely does anyone get suspended without warning or for a single offense.
Put another way, posters normally have to work at it to get banned or suspended. It's a last line of defense typically reserved for repeat offenders.
We do the best we can, but I'm sure sometimes we get it wrong. As moderators, we make bad decisions, just as posters may.
My guideline on not allowing public discussions of mods stems from the fact that typically posters only want to address mods in a negative way since most good moderating goes unnoticed. It always seems senseless to me to allow the bashing of those who volunteer their time to help me out.
